He had been ill for the past month with a heart ailment. He was born in Decatur in 1906, a son of Frederick and Melissa Werst, and had resided in Geneva for the past 30 years. Mr. Werst was a member of the volunteer fire department at Geneva. Surviving are his wife, the former Doris Sprunger (sic); two sons, Frederick Werst of Winchester, and Olen Werst, at home; two daughters, Bernice of Geneva, and Rose, of Montpelier; three grandchildren; two brothers, Chalmer Werst of Decatur and Perry Werst of Rockford, O., and a half-brother, Olen Hardin of La Punte, Calif. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Hardy & Hardy funeral home in Geneva, with burial in the Ray cemetery near Monroe.
