KOHNE DIES SATURDAY AT HOSPITAL Raymond B. Kohne, 71, of 327 Mercer Avenue, well known retired Decatur druggist, and member of a prominent Adams County family, died at 5:50 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's hospital, Fort Wayne. Mr. Kohne had undergone surgery Sept. 8, and his condition had been serious since that time. Mr. Kohne owned and operated the Kohne Drug Store on North Second street here for 40 years prior to his retirement in 1964. He was born in Decatur July 22, 1895, a son of Alphonse and Mary Geels-Kohne, and was a lifelong resident of this community. He attended the local schools and was a graduate of the University of Illinois school of pharmacy. A veteran of WWI, he served as service officer for many years. He was first married to Leona Bosse, who preceded him in death Jan. 13, 1963. He was married April 24, 1964, to Laura Lauby Bosse, who survives. Mr. Kohne was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church, the Holy Name society, Decatur lodge 864, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion Post 43. He served as a member of the Decatur public library board for 26 years before retiring in 1965. Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Dr. Robert Kohne of Lafayette; a stepson, Thomas Bosse of Cleveland, O.; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Katherine) Barbieri of Fort Wayne and Mrs. L. A. (Rosemarie) O'Donnell of Springfield, Va.; one brother, Dr. Gerald J. Kohne of Decatur; fours sisters, Mrs. Irene Cole of Cincinnati, O., Sister M. Francis Claire, C.S.A., of Fon Du Lac, Wis., Mrs. Arthur Lutz of Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. Bertha Ashton of Fort Wayne; and 19 grandchildren. One brother, Rev. Ambrose Kohne, preceded him in death. A solemn requiem high mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic church. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Simson Schmitt will be celebrant of the mass, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Thomas Durkin, Fort Wayne, as deacon, and Rev. Leo Picquet, Lafayette, as sub-deacon. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery. Friends may call at Gillig-Doan & Sefton funeral home after 2:30 p.m. today until time of the services. The rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock this evening.
