SMITH Barbara R. Smith, 71, Berne, died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday at home. She lived in Monroeville for 35 years before moving to Berne five years ago. She was born on June 29, 1926 in Fort Wayne to Chester N. and A. Lorene Garlinger LeMay and Married Willard F. Smith on October 27, 1947. He died on August 25, 1980. She was a homemaker and a former seamstress at Bennett's Co. in New Haven and at Fort Wayne Tailoring Co. She was a former member of Monroeville United Methodist Church and its Women's Society. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Leslie (Charlotte C.) Carpenter, Fairmount; four sons, Gregory F. Smith, Berne; Finley N. and Terrence E. Smith, both of New Haven; and Douglas A. Smith, Fort Wayne; one brother, Paul E. LeMay, Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and 14 step great-grandchildren. A brother Kenneth C. LeMay is deceased. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Marquart and Jacobs Funeral Home, Monroeville, with burial in Monroeville Memorial cemetery. Visiting hours are 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday. Preferred memorials are to Hospice Care in Decatur or the Emergency Medical Service office in Berne.
