NORMAN RETTIG Rev. Norman Rettig, 76, Berne, died at 1 a.m. Friday in his apartment of an apparent heart attack. He had been ill one year. A retired minister, Rev. Rettig moved to Berne in October 1990 from Swanton, Ohio. He served in the ministry for more than 50 years in several places including Delta, New Carlisle and Swanton, Ohio, Fort Wayne, Jackson, Miss., and Honolulu, Hawaii. He was also caretaker at the Dayview Care Center in New Carlisle, Ohio, and was a member of the First Missionary Church in Berne. He was born to Mr. and Mrs. Noai (?) Rettig on November 19, 1915 in Napoleon, Ohio. He married Marjorie Siegle on June 12, 1937 in Ohio; she died in March 1987. A son, Neal, is deceased. Survivors include two sisters, Zelma Lee, Archbold, Ohio and Lucille Bannister, Napoleon, Ohio; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Missionary Church in Berne, Rev. Gerald Gerig, Rev. William Lepley and Rev. Michael Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Covington Gardens, Fort Wayne. Visit hours are 2-9 p.m. Monday and 8-9:15 a.m. Tuesday at Yager-Kirchoffer Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.
