"Emma" Frank, 92, 1328 High St., a lifelong Adams County resident, died at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday in Adams County Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was born on October 7, 1908 in Adams County to Henry F. and Martha Jefferies Buffenbarger, but was reared by her grandparents, John and Jan Humble Buffenbarger. She married Charles M. Frank on November 24, 1926; he died on June 12, 1972. She worked at the former Newberry Five and Dime store in downtown Decatur before retiring in the 1960s. She was a member of Decatur Church of God and was chairwoman of its Fellowship Service Committee for more than 45 years as well as a past president of the church's Missionary Society. She was also active in Meals on Wheels, the Tape Ministry, the Women's Birthday Group, the Pioneer Class, and the Forget-Me-Knots. Surviving are a son, Kenneth M. "Sonny" Frank of Lima, Ohio; four daughter, Ilo J. Cline of Fort Wayne, Nancy J. Kershner of Monroe and Mrs. Larry (Patty L.) Meyer and Susan M. Osborn, both of Decatur; three brothers, Frank Buffenbarger of Odessa, Texas; Donald Buffenbarger of Grabill, Texas; and Bill Buffenbarger of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Helen Brown of Fort Wayne and Nancy Chiow of Sandusky, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A brother, Richard Buffenbarger, is deceased, as are three sisters, Bessie Colvolt, Marilyn Clifton Ferguson, and Mary Mitch. Three grandchildren are also deceased. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Decatur Church of God, with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, rural Decatur. Visiting hours are 1-5 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and 9-10 a.m. Saturday in the church. Preferred memorials are to the scholarship fund at the church.
