Oct 13, 1973 GENE L. MYERS, age 45, PACE ARROW SUPERVISOR, DIES UNEXPECTEDLY TODAY Gene L. Myers, age 45, of 945 Parkview Dr., an assistant supervisor at Pace Arrow, who retired from the Air Force in 1971 after over 21 years in the service, died suddenly at 1:45 a.m. this morning. Mr. Myers suffered a heart attack at home and was dead on arrival at Adams County Memorial Hospital. He had not been ill and death was unexpected. Mr. Myers retired from the Air Force in July of 1971 after 21 years and 10 months of service to his country. He held the rank of Technical Sgt. when he retired and was a production scheduler in air craft maintenance. He served in Florida during the Cuban missile crisis, and was called to Italy during the Berlin crisis. He was stationed in Okinawa for five years. After retiring from the Air Force, he joined Pace Arrow in August of 1971 and was later named an assistant supervisor. Mr. Myers was a member of the Southern Baptist Church, Okinawa. He was born in Tocsin, Wells county, on Aug. 19, 1928, the son of George W. and Opal Johnson-Myers, and was married on May 11, 1952 to Betty McKean. Surviving are his parents, who reside at 516 North Fifth Street; his wife; one son, Tony L. of route 3, Decatur; one daughter, Cindy Lou, at home; one brother, Ned Myers of Decatur and one grandson, Julius Myers. One son preceded him in death. Full military funeral rites will be held, but arrangements are incomplete at this time. The Zwick funeral home is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Myers graduated from Decatur high school in 1946, and was a member of the varsity track and football teams. His specialty in track was the ___ (shot?) put.
