Rash, 76, Decatur, died at 6:15 a.m. Saturday in Adams County Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 22, 1924 in Decatur to Joseph and Marguerite Mayer Rash and married Betty L. Bohde on July 7, 1945, she survives. He worked at the General Electric Co. plant in Fort Wayne, then was a dispatcher for the Decatur Police Department for several years until retiring. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur. Mr. Rash was a paratrooper in the U S. Army in Europe during World War II and was captured and spent six months in a German prisoner of war camp. However, he managed to escape and made it to Paris, France, just in time for the celebration on V. E. (Victory in Europe) Day in May of 1945. Other survivors are a son, Ted A. Rash of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Mrs. (Billie May) Kruse of Chicago, Illinois, and Mrs. Chris (Sandra S.) Ranly, of Columbia, South Carolina; a brother, Lawrence "Joe" Rash of Evansville, formerly a rural Decatur resident; a sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Virginia) Scott of Florida; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A son and a sister are deceased. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Zion Lutheran church, with burial in Decatur Cemetery, including military graveside rites by the color guard from American Legion Post 43 in Decatur. Visitation is until 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today in Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Preferred memorials are to the building fund at Zion Lutheran Church. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
