Schultz, 26, of 1725 Monroe street, member of a prominent Decatur family, was killed early this morning in a one-car accident two miles south of Fort Wayne on U.S. highway 27. The accident victim was pronounced dead on arrival at Lutheran hospital at 12:20 a.m. Dr. Richard E. Bower, Allen County coroner, listed cause of death as a broken neck and multiple internal injuries. The Decatur young man's death was the eighth traffic fatality of the year in Allen county. Investigating officers from Allen county said the Schultz auto was headed north on 27, two miles south of the Fort Wayne city limits, when it veered off the road and struck a bridge bannister. He was pinned in the wreckage. Authorities said he apparently fell asleep. Schultz was the son of Leo and Cordelia Worthman-Schultz, with whom he made his home. He was employed with his father at Baker & Schultz Construction Co. The accident victim was born in Decatur, Oct. 15, 1943, and graduated from Decatur Catholic high school in 1962. He spent four years, from 1963 to 1967, with the United States Air Force in Okinawa, Japan and Hawaii. Schultz was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Adams Post 43, American Legion and the Moose lodge. Surviving are his parents; four sisters, Mrs. Donald (Geraldine) Heck of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Paul (Mary) Hess of Decatur, Mrs. Michael (Jane) Beery of Decatur and Joyce Schultz, at home; six brothers, David G. Schultz of Decatur, James E. Schultz of Decatur, John Schultz, with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, and Tom, Fred and William Schultz, all at home; a step-grandmother, Mrs. Pearl Worthman of Decatur route 3; and 15 nieces and nephews. The body was removed to Zwick funeral home. Funeral arrangements have not been completed, pending word from the brother in Vietnam.
