Margie, Margie, 11 Nov 2011 - Joey Pedigo This is the information I have on Nicholas Wagoner re: marriages. There is one that indicates that his father was "LN" Wagoner and mother Sarah King; not sure about that as I have his parents as John N. and Sarah Echener. Sarah Essex's mother was Nancy Penix or a variation of that name, so I guess Peak was as close as they got to that name. Thanks, Joey! Here are two obits that I have for Nicholas: Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, Allen County, Indiana; Friday, July 7, 1911 DECATUR, Ind. July 6 - Nicholas Wagoner, aged 82, one of the pioneer residents of the county, died last night at his home in Monroe after a week's illness from paralysis. He was born in France but had lived in this county since the early forties. In 184(8?), he was married to Miss Mary Everhart, and to them were born 10 children, of whom the following survive: John of this city, Ira of Monroe, Eli of Montana, Mary Jane Baker and Minda Laisure, of Monroe, Etta Silvers of Winchester. Mr. Wagoner's second wife was Sarah Whi?ker. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Winchester church near Monroe, the Rev. Wyer officiating. >From Karin King who thinks this is from the Berne Witness published in Adams Co Gen. newsletter Summer 2011. (originally published July 7, 1911) NICHOLAS WAGNER DIES - After Having Lived Over 70 Years in Monroe Township - Funeral This Afternoon Another old pioneer passed away Wednesday evening when Nicholas Wagner died at his home in Monroe from the effects of the stroke of paralysis he received a week ago yesterday. On that same day he and Mrs. Wagner had been in Berne spending the day with Mr. and Mrs. John P. Nussbaum (Mr. Wagner being an uncle of Mrs. Nussbaum) and they had returned home and Mr. Wagner done his chores and returned to the house and was sitting in a chair when he received the stroke of payalysis. Had he lived until the 26th of the month he would have been 83 years old. Mr. Wagner was born in the southern part of France and came with his parents to this state, county and township when he was ten years old. He lived here ever since, was married three times and reared a family of six children, all of whom are married and still living. There is John and Ira Wagner living in Monroe township and their youngest brother, Eli, who moved to Montana about six years ago. Two of the daughters, Mrs. Ira Baker and Mrs. Tom Laisure, are also living in Monroe township and another one is married in Richmond. Deceased also leaves a brother, James Wagner, 78 years old, who lives two miles north of Monroe. His third wife, who, with the children, and many grandchildren mourns over his death, was 81 years old on July 4th. The funeral willl be held at the Hardscrabble church in Monroe township this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial to take place in the grave yard near the church. Deceased had received the full force of the stroke of paralysis mostly in his head and he was therefore unconscious until death relieved him.
