Lewton Decatur - 1912-2001 Richard D. Lewton, 88, of Decatur, who served as Adams County clerk from 1956 to 1964, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Adams County Memorial Hospital. The Adams County native retired in 1977 from United Telephone Co. after 10 years of service and was former Adams County treasurer from 1948 to 1952. He had also worked as a barber and self-employed electrician, and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Surviving are daughters Carolyn Lehman of Ohio City, Ohio, Barbara A. Haynes of Auburn and Mary Lou Brunner, Kathy Strickler and Geraldine Sudduth, all of Decatur; a son, Richard C. of Topeka; a niece, Marjorie Keeler of Granger; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda M., three sisters and two brothers. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 1 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. today at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial will be at Decatur Cemetery. Memorials are to the church.
