HIATT John L. Hiatt, 78, Berne, who was elected to three important Jay County political posts from 1956-74, died Monday in Swiss Village of Alzheimer's Disease. He was born in Fort Recovery, Ohio, on Sept. 15, 1915 to Morton and Lydia Grile Hiatt and married Marabeth Flaler on April 26, 1941. She survives. He served as Jay County Commissioner from 1956-60, Jay County Clerk from 1960-68, and Jay County Council member from 1970-74. He was also a farmer and an auction clerk for 45 years. Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Jud (Margaret) Sprunger, Berne, and Mrs. Tod (Virginia) Glentzer, Kokomo; one brother, Harold Hiatt, Fort Recovery; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Edith) Prescott, Union City, Indiana; and four grandchildren. One sister is deceased. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland, with burial in Springhill Cemetery, Fort Recovery, Ohio. Visiting hours are until 9 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Thursday. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
