HARDY Mildred S. Hardy, 87, Decatur, died at 10:36 a.m. Mondy in the extended care unit of Adams County Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was born on July 1, 1909 in Decatur to Martin E. and Lydia Fruechte Worthman and married A. Garland Hardy on June 27, 1947. He died on August 6, 1972. She retired in 1974 as a home economics teacher at Muncie Southside High School, and also taught at Decatur High School from 1937-47, and at Graysville, Rensselaer, and Selma high schools in Indiana. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur, the Indiana State Teacher' Association, the Women's Lions Club at Muncie, the Order of the Eastern Star and Delta Kappa Gamma sorority. She attended Ball State Teacher's College in Muncie and received her bachelor's degree from Indiana State Teachers' College in Terra Haute in 1934 and her master's degree from Ball State. The only survivor is her brother, Robert Worthman, Decatur. A sister, Lillian Wittmeyer, is deceased. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in Zwick-Sefton and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, with burial in Elm Ridge Cemetery, Muncie. Visiting hours are 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home and 2-3 p.m. Thursday in the chapel at Elm Ridge Cemetery. Preferred memorial are to the church.
