COURTNEY, 39, DIES; Active in JOBS Program Mrs. Gloria R. COURTNEY, 39, of 325 N. Nineth Street, active worker in the Headstart program and JOBS, Inc., died at 1:55 p.m. Friday at the Adams County Memorial Hospital, following an illness of the past few months. She had been hospitalized since April 16. She was the first and only county chairman of the JOBS, Inc., (Joint Organization For Broader Services) and was elected to that position in 1967. Mrs. Courtney was also elected to the executive board in Portland and served five years in that capacity. She was active in all the Community Action Programs and was a volunteer for the Headstart Program. She worked toward low income housing, and was instrumental in getting the Community Action Center at the Lincoln School. Mrs. Courtney also took care of all write-ups for the newspaper in these fields. NINE CHILDREN Born in Mercer County, Ohio, on 20 December 1923, she was the daughter of Howell and Verba BRUNSTETTER-DUFF, and was married 19 December 1956 to Orville E. (Gene) COURTNEY. Surviving are the husband, her father (who resides at 815 Madison Street); nine children, Deborah, Elaine, Sylvia, Rhonda, Marci, Pamela, John, Daniel and William; the maternal grandfather, Clarence BRUNSTETTER, Fort Wayne; one sister Mrs. Darryl (Sandra) BAILEY of Coronado, California; and two brothers, Richard DUFF of route 3 Columbia City and Donald DUFF of Decatur. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Zwick Funeral Home, with Rev. Fuhrman MILLER officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery, Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. tonight. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
