He was a retired Blue Creek Township farmer and also retired from International Harvester Co. in 1974. He served with Army during World War II and was awarded the Victory Medal and Army Occupation Medal. Born Dec. 23, 1926, in Mercer County, O., he was the son of Oscar F. and Arressa Mottinger-Garwood, and was married Aug. 7, 1948, to Gisela A. Bender. Survivors include the wife; 12 children, Mrs. Ron (Barbara) Rowland, route 1, Monroe; Mrs. Lonnie (Rita) Graft, Decatur; Sue Girod, route 7, Decatur; Mrs. Roland (Teresa) Roehm, route 1, Willshire, O.; Mrs. Timothy (Karen) Colchin, route 1, Monroe; Lisa Garwood, route 7, Decatur; Mrs. Leslie (Beverly) Hunter, route 1, Willshire; Edward Garwood, route 7, Decatur; Jerry Garwood, route1, Willshire; Thomas Garwood, Ohio City, O.; Daniel Garwood, route 1, Willshire; John Garwood, route 7, Decatur; and 24 grandchildren. The parents, the stepmother, Ethel Douglas Garwood, and one brother, Harold Garwood, are deceased. Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Zwick-Sefton & Jahn Funeral Home, Rev. Sylvester Martin officiating. Burial will be in Willshire Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials are to the Visiting Nurses Home Health Care of Van Wert, O.
