She was born on December 25, 1920 in Decatur to Fred and Mary Smith Schaffer and married Ivan E. Garwood on May 23, 1940; he survives. She was a homemaker and a member of Simpson United Methodist church in Fort Wayne. Other survivors are five sons, William Garwood of Indianapolis; Thomas, James, and Terry Garwood, all of Fort Wayne; and Timothy Garwood of Cleveland, Ohio; five daughters, Mrs. Donald (Barbara) Waidelich of Syracuse; Mrs. Larry (Judy) Burkhart of Avilla; Mrs. Archibald (Karen Sue) Cornell of Springfield, Ohio; and Mrs. Bill (Leah) Borror and Mrs. Robertson (Connie) Goll, both of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mable Schaffer of Fort Wayne; 32 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Deceased are two sons, Ivan E. Garwood Jr. and Daniel Garwood; a daughter, Tanya Smith; and seven brothers, Carl, Jake, Ira, John, Dewey, Buck and Sylvester Schaffer. Funeral services were held today, with burial in Decatur Cemetery. Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home of Decatur provided funeral arrangements.
