Ketchum, 68, of 947 Mercer Avenue, prominent retired Decatur school teacher, died at 7:53 o'clock Friday evening at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, following an illness of two weeks. Mr. Ketchum retired three years ago as head of the industrial arts department of the Decatur High School after serving for 37 years in the Decatur school system. He graduated from Ball State Teacher's College in 1928 and received his master's degree from Indiana University in 1939. He taught eight years in the Jefferson Township school, moving to Decatur 40 years ago when he became associated with the city school system. Mr. Ketchum was also active in church circles, serving as Sunday school teacher for 20 years at the Decatur E.U.B. church, where he was a former trustee, and secretary-treasurer of the Decatur E.U.B. Men's Club. Born in Jefferson Township December 12, 1899, he was a son of Marion and Mae Barr-Ketchum. He was married to Miss Rosa Byer August 25, 1925. Surviving are his wife; one son, Jerry (sic) M. Ketchum of Springfield, Ill.; one brother, Leo Ketchum of Bryan; five sisters, Mrs. Jack (Bessie) Curry of Geneva, Mrs. Anna Durbin of Van Wert, O., Mrs. Gusta Baker of Albion, Mrs. Dayton (Dulcie) Gunter of Ohio City, O., and Mrs. Beulah Hilleary of Portland; and six grandchildren. Two sisters are deceased. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Winteregg-Linn Funeral Home, with Rev. Fuhrman Miller and Rev. Benjamin F. Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Sunday until 1 p.m. Monday. The casket will be closed at 12:30 p.m. prior to the 1:30 p.m. services.
