Melchi dies at hospital Cecil A. Melchi, 68, lifelong resident of Decatur, who formerly lived at 210 Rugg street, and a retired barber, died at 2:28 a.m. Sunday at the Adams county memorial hospital. He had been a patient at the hospital for one month, and a resident of Decatur Community Care Center for the past year. Mr. Melchi was employed by the Murphy and Lose barber shops, and operated his own shop on West Adams street for 10 years until retiring. He also operated Melchi Photography. Born in Decatur Feb. 24, 1904, he was a son of Sephus and Nettie Ehrsam-Melchi. His father served as Decatur's chief of police for many years. He was married to Margaret Ashbaucher June 2, 1924. His wife preceded him in death May 21, 1969. Mr. Melchi was a member of the First Presbyterian church and Decatur lodge 571, F&AM. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Harry (Judith) Hebble, Jr. of Decatur; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Death of Angola, and Mrs. Hubert (Zelda) Cochran of Decatur; two brothers, Harold Melchi of Pierceton, and Russell Melchi of Decatur; and two granddaughters. Funeral rites will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Zwick funeral home, with Rev. Robert Vander Hart officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today until time of the services. Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. today.
