Gilbert Rites Friday Afternoon War Veteran's Body To Arrive Tonight The body of Pvt. Gorman A. Gilbert, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Gilbert, of Monroe township, will arrive in Decatur at 8:15 o'clock this evening and will be taken to the Lobenstein funeral home at Monroe until the funeral Friday. Veterans of Foreign Wars post 6236 and American Legion Adams post 43 will have charge of the services when the body is interred at the Decatur cemetery. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Lobenstein funeral home and 2 o'clock at the Monroe Friends church. The Rev. Russel Person, of Monroe, will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Pallbearers, who were all class mates of Pvt. Gilbert at Monroe high school, and all served in World War II, are Max Winteregg, Lofton Rich, Brice Fisher, Doyt Bryan, Arthur Raudebush and Robert Johnson. The body had been interred in a United States military cemetery in Europe before it was shipped back to this country aboard the army transport Oglethorpe Victory several weeks ago. Pvt. Gilbert was killed while serving with the 20th armored infantry in Germany, March 6, 1945. He had been in service eight months, and was 20 years old when he was killed. In addition to his parents, Pvt. Gilbert is survived by three brothers, Virgil and Eugene, of Monroe, and Ermal, of Decatur route four, and his grandfather, John Allen Haggard, of Decatur.
