Butcher, 87, 1062 Russell St., died 6:54 p.m. Wednesday in Adams County Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 14 1910, Mercer County, Ohio to Adam C. and Eldora E. Johnson Butcher and married Magdalene Borne on Aug. 8, 1935; she survives. He retired in 1975 after 46 years at Decatur Casting and was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Decatur, at which he taught Sunday School for 40 years. He was also a trustee, served on the administrative board, and was a member of the Keen-Agers. He was a Democratic precinct committeeman for 19 years and a member of the Decatur Optimist Club with 20 years of perfect attendance. Other survivors are 6 sons, Robert E., Steven L., Daniel J. and Phillip S. Butcher, all of Decatur; David R. Butcher, Anderson; and Rev. Neil D. Butcher, Marion; a brother, Maynard N. Butcher, Seattle, Washington; 18 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 26 step-great-grandchildren. Deceased are a grandson; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Morris & Lewis Butcher, and four sisters, Opal Baker, Evora Butcher, Evaline Roop, and Beatrice Gilpin. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Mark's United Methodist Church, with burial in Decatur Cemetery. Visiting hours are 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to noon Sunday in Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur, and 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday in the church. There will be an Optimist Club memorial service at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the church or to the donor's choice. Among his survivors are six sons, Robert F., Steven L., Daniel J., Phillip S., and David R. Butcher, all of Decatur, and Rev. Neil D. Butcher of Albany; and four step-great-greatgrandchildren.
