Essex, 73, of 102 West Walnut street, Monroe; a lifelong resident of the community, died at 6:45 a.m. today at the Adams county memorial hospital, where he had been a patient one day. He had been in failing health for the past year. He was born in Monroe township Aug. 2, 1898, a son of Jesse and Anna Andrews-Essex, and was married to Martha Jacobs Dec. 10, 1921. Mr. Essex had been Republican precinct committeeman in North Monroe precinct for many years. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Lester Essex of Columbia City, and Glen E. Essex of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Mrs. Lois Arends of Decatur, and Mrs. Georgianna Barlett of Fort Wayne; one sister, Mrs. Dan (Minnie) Kauffman of Decatur route 6; one brother, Harry (Peck) Essex of Decatur; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Two sons, two sisters and four brothers are deceased. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Zwick funeral home, with Rev. Donald Wilks officiating. Burial will be in the Ray cemetery, west of Monroe. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Sunday until time of the services.
