Hirschy, 74, rural Monroe, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday in Adams County Memorial Hospital after having been in failing health for three years. He was born on September 8, 1925 in Adams County to George and Ida Biberstein Hirschy and married Lou Anna Johnson on May 1, 1948; she survives. He was a Monroe Township farmer who also worked for Eastern Indiana Oil Co., the Adams County Highway Department, Franklin Electric Corp. in Bluffton, All American Homes in Decatur, and Adams County Co-Op Lumber. He was a member of Monroe United Brethren in Christ Church, the Indiana Sheriffs' Association, and American Legion Post 43 in Decatur. During World War II, he was a sergeant in the U. S. Army Medical Corps, in the Pacific Ocean theater of operations. Other survivors are a brother, Rev. Chester D. Hirschy of Claremont, Florida, and a sister, Mrs. Oscar (Sylvia) Bertsch of rural Decatur. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, with burial in MRE Cemetery, west of Berne, including military graveside rites by the color guard from American Legion Post 43. Visiting hours are 6 to 8 today and 2 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Preferred memorials are to the family, the Adams County chapter of the Amerian Cancer Society, or the Adams County Hospice.
