These transcriptions are very useful to researchers who do not have access to images. They can also be useful to researchers who do have access to images because in many cases, they are prepared by people do research in the areas they are transcribing, and they are able to provide a more accurate index of names. These transcriptions have been done by volunteers who work for free and provide their work at no charge, and the quantity of transcriptions available depends upon the number of volunteers willing to do the work. Because of this, only a few census years are available for Adams County. If you do research in Indiana, be sure to check and see if there are transcriptions available for the areas you are researching. Also, PLEASE consider volunteering to do a transcription, even if it's only one township. Your work can help hundreds, if not thousands, of your fellow researchers.
