B. BUHLER DEAD Well Known Resident Succumbed Last Night, Following a Decline Of Many Months Was Veteran Blacksmith -- Funeral Will Be Monday Afternoon Following a decline of a year and a half, from diabetes, the last five weeks of which were most serious, Jacob B. Buhler, veteran blacksmith of the city, and late merchant, passed away at his home on Jefferson street last night. Mr. Buhler, while born at North Manchester, March 4, 1859, making him a little past sixty years of age, was a resident of this city the greater part of his life. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Buhler, Sr., came to this county when he was but two years old, and took a farm east of the city, where they lived until the son, Jacob, was thirteen years old. The family then came to this city and made their home in the residence where Mr. Buhler's death occurred. With the exception of a short residence on Eighth street, he had made his home at this one place, since his parents moved here, forty-seven years ago. Mr. Buhler in young manhood, learned the blacksmith's trade and he devoted himself to that until six years ago. Two years later he entered the grocery business. He established a grocery at the corner of Adams and Seventh street which he conducted the past four years. He was married May 3, 1893, to Miss Florence Beatty, whose death occurred October 10, 1910. To them were born four children, all of whom are living. They are Mrs. Ruth Beatty, of Hammond; Lillian, Lucile and Gordon, at home. November 27, 1912, he was married to Mrs. Bina Campbell Lhamon, who survives. Stepchildren are Mrs. Frank Young and Ralph Lhamon. There are two brothers living - Chester Buhler, of Hammond; and Samuel Buhler, of Elkhart. Mr. Buhler was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge of this city for the past forty years, and was its oldest member. The Odd Fellows will have charge of the funeral services, which will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the residence. The sermon will be preached by the Rev. J. Ed Stone, of the Baptist church, assisted by the Rev. A. H. Saunders, of the Presbyterian church. Burial will be in the Decatur cemetery.
