She was born on March 11, 1908 in Caddo County, Oklahoma, to Willis M. and Rachel Fields Burdg. She married O. Kenneth Zerkel on December 19, 1925; he died in 1952. She was a former office worker at Dunbar Furniture in Berne and was a bookkeeper for the Berne IGA grocery for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Missionary Society and Calvary United Metodist (sic) Church of Linn Grove. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Kathleen) Sauers, rural Decatur, and Mrs. Larry (Sherryl) Martin, Logansport; four sons, Gene Zerkel, Anchorage, Alaska; James M. Zerkel, Joplin, Missouri; Jerry L. Zerkel, Little Rock, Arkansas; and Ronald B. Zerkel, Fort Myers, Florida; 30 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Deceased are two brothers, Gilbert and Wayne Burdg, and two sisters, Bessie Croy and Lucy Doke. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Calvary United Methodist Church, with burial in MRE Cemetery, Berne. Visiting hours are until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. - noon Saturday in Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne, and from 1-2 p.m. Saturday in the church. Preferred memorials are to the church.
