    3. Welcome new members of the Adams Co. IN Discussion list. Reminder - you can find a list of all who have formally registered the Adams Co. surnames they are interested in by going to: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inadams/adamsco.htm I haven't received any updates since February 9. If you are on this discussion list and would like to be added, please send me your name, your email address, your city and state of residence, and the Adams Co. surnames you are researching in the following format: Your Name Your Email Your Present Residence SURNAME1, SURNAME2, SURNAME3 If you have a chance to get to Adams Co. you'll find a lot of willing helpers. I was back about 3 weeks ago and visited the County Clerk's office, Health Department, Recorder's office, Auditors office, and the Law Enforcement center (wills, tax records, etc) as well as the library and found a lot of folks willing to help. I found a flyer at the library, which I haven't had time to get up on the Adams Co. web site yet. To summarize: "We offer a limited research service (in genealogy and family history materials) by which we search standard references as time allows for a specific person during a specific time period from the Adams Co. area." You can call 219-724-2605, Mon - Fri from 9am to 5 pm, or write to the Decatur Public Library, 128 S. Third St., Decatur IN 46733. You must provide the following: Your name and address, your telephone number, limit of cost (i.e. the maximum you are willing to pay) and a query: name, time period, type of information. The charges for patrons living in Indiana are $2.50 per query + 20 cents per copy if over 5 pages. For patrons living outside Indiana, $5.00 per query + 20 cents per copy if over 5 pages. Donations are always welcome. If you've never visited the library, you ought to know that there is an index file of all obituaries in the Decatur Daily Democrat and previous papers. I think Dick Heller is responsible for getting that started, right Dick. It's a valuable resource that you may not find in many places. Here's a tip: don't forget to search the tax records. They can help place individuals in specific locations in the years between the federal census as well as give you some valuable information about the family and whether or not they owned land. One more item for today. Please do NOT send file attachments to this list. Large attachments can wreak havoc with some internet providers and take a long time to download for those of us without speedy connections. If you have something to share, why not notify the list about what you have and ask for those who would like to have a copy to email you directly. Then you can send the item to those who wish to have it. Thanks for your help. I hope your Easter is a joyous and blessed one.
