Lynn I just got back tonight from a research trip to Indiana. Wells, Adams, Jay, and Allen Counties. I spoke with the registrar in Jay county. She said that this is a common problem and that the registrars had a meeting on it two night ago. She said that what happens is that many times the person may have died in one county but the doctor who certified the death had his office in another county and just filed the death in the county were his office was. She also stated that the doctors also had the option of filing the death with the county or with the state office and many times just filed the state and didn't bother with the county filing. I have run across the same thing and found the persons death record in another county. Hope this helps. David Michigan
