Hello and Happy Thanksgiving. There are now 29 subscribers to this list, 16 on the email list, and 13 on the digest list. Although some of you have sent information about yourself, I'd like to ask each of you to send a message to the list giving your name, email address and Adams Co. surnames of interest in the following format: Your Name, email address SURNAME1, SURNAME2, SURNAME3 I'll keep track of them and compile a list, which I'll add to with each new subscriber. Periodically I'll send out this list to you and any new members so we can all keep track of each other, and hopefully find new contacts. File attachments can cause problems with some internet providers. And large attachments can really clog up your message download if you happen to be on digest mode. File attachments are best sent directly to individuals concerned upon request, rather than to the entire list. Thanks for your understanding. I just spent two days in Decatur doing some research on the Mann and McConnehey lines. For those who plan to go, note that all the wills and administratorships are now in the Adams Co. Law Enforcement Center at the corner of First and Adams Streets. You can have direct access to all the books and boxes with plenty of table space to work. Birth and Death records are in the old Decatur High School, third floor, with a great staff to assist you. Marriage records remain in the Clerk's office in the Courthouse. I find that my printing is slow, so I take a recorder with me to dictate records, spelling names and dictating puctuation. Then, as I started this morning, I transcribe my recorded notes to a word processor. That seems to make more efficient use of time, for me, when searching for records.
