My first relative into Adams Co. was Joseph Smith b. 1804 m. Lydia Reaves. They arrived about 1838 from Guernsey Co., OH. Other relatives included cousins that were Engles, and Joseph's sister who was Jemima b. 1808 and her husband John D. Brill. The Brill's were to have had 7 children, but have been unable to locate them. When the Civil War began, Joseph's brother John Minor Smith brought their mother Lydia Elizabeth Reed Smith to his brother Joseph's along with his wife Jemima Reed Smith (first cousin) her 3 children by her first husband Finley Chaney, and their 3 Smith sons. John joined the 89th IN Inf - H Co along with many other relatives and was killed 2 years later. Jemima stayed in IN until about 1885 when she left along with Jacob, Benjamin and James Smith and moved to Junction City, KS. I do not know for certain where the Chaney's went. (Jacob being my direct line). I have been very fortunate to have been able to get a large number of connections to Joseph Smith's children thanks to so many on this list. Some of the names include Roop, Ray, Sackett, Brandyberry,Russell and of course the Andrews and Archbold and a whole bunch more. So am looking for more on Engle, Brill, Chaney and I don't know if any of the Reeds moved there. Faith Keahey@cyberhighway.net
