    3. Justine, Camp meetings were religious revival services sponsored by one or more churches. Usually a large tent was set up for the meetings, since no one church would be big enough to handle the crowds. As a bare minimum there would be a preaching service every evening and the meetings would last for at least a week. If the turnout was great enough to warrant it, the services would often be extended to two or more weeks. I don't know about the social side of it but, anytime you have a large group of people meeting together every evening, I would imagine that there may have people sharing the evening meal at least. Camp meeting was, also, a popular place to take your date for the evening. Obviously, this was not a winter event.
