All the official records, or most, would be in Decatur. For example marriages and deeds in the court house, births and deaths in the annex (old Decatur High School [Rah! Rah!]), probate records in the county jail. There is more detailed information on records and their locations on the Adams web site. And of course, don't forget census records...you can get them on interlibrary loan in many places, and you can also rent the films yourself from various organizations. They're now even available on CD-Rom which you can purchase for a very reasonable fee.
