This is to certify that on the twenty third day of October in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen, before me, David Branett one of the Justices of the Peace in and for Greenfield Township, Fairfield County came John Belt of Newton Township, Licking County and Kitty Nelson of Greenfield Township, Fairfield County and were legally joined in marriage each of them being of full age and declaring themselves free respectively from prior engagements or other lawful impediments. Witnesseth that the said Jacob Coffelt party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of fifty dollars to him in hand paid the reciept whereof he doth hereby acknowledge hath given granted bargained sold released and conveyed and doth by these presents give grant bargain sell release conveyed and confirmed unto the said John Belt party of the second part and to his heirs and assign forever all that tract or parcel of land situate and being in the county of Adam and state of Indiana known and designated as being the North East quarter of the South West quarter of Section nineteen (19), Township twenty five (25), part of Range fifteen (15) East, containing forty acres be the same more are less to have and to hold the premises aforesaid with all the privileges and appentenances thereunto belonging on in any wise appertaining unto him the same John Belt and unto his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Jacob Coffelt for himself and his heirs execute and administer doth covenant and promise to and with the said John Belt his heirs and assigns that he the said Jacob Coffelt is lawfully seized of the premises aforesaid that he has good right, full power and lawful authority to sell and convey the same in manner aforesaid, and that the premises are free and clear of and from all incumbrances whatsoever and further that he the said Jacob Coffelt will and truly warrant and forever defend the premises herein and hereby granted unto the said John Belt and unto his heirs and assigns against the lawful claims and demands of all and every person whomsoever. Rugg, Recorder. 1847 February 4 Adams County, Indiana Book A, (Roll Number 21), page 68 - Will of John Belt - I, John Belt of Jefferson Township in Adams County in the state of Indiana do make and publish this my last Will and testament hereby revolking and making void all former Wills by me at my heretofor mark. First I direct that my body be decently intered and that my funeral be conducted in a manner corresponding with my estate and situation in life and to such worldly estate which it has pleased God to entrust me with. I dispose of the same in the following manner, to wit I direct first that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my death as possible out of the first moneys that shall come into the hands of my executor from any portion of my personal estate. I also direct that my personal estate shall be equally divided between my three children, Jerimiah, Vincent and Mary after my wife recovers her third. I also direct and bequeath to my son Jerimiah the land on which I now live it being the north west quarter of the south east quarter of Section 19, Township 25 North, of Range 15 East, containing forty acres, conditioned that he support his mother during her life and maintain his brother Vincent and his sister Mary until they are twenty one years of age and give them common schooling. I hereby make and ordain my son Jerimiah executor of this my last will and testament. In testimony where of I, John Belt the testator have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of February A.D. 1847 signed sealed published and declared by John Belt as his last will and testament. Rugg, Clerk of the Probate Court of Adams County do hereby certify that Josiah Crawford of said county personally appeared before me and being of lawful age and duly sworn on his oath saith that he was acquainted with John Belt the testator whose signature is affixed to the within Will and testament preported to be his, that he saw said testator in his life time subscribe said will by writing his name thereto and heard him publish and declare the same to be his last will and testament that said testor was at the time of signing his name thereto of sound mind and memory and not under any coercion or restraint. And that he the said Josiah Crawford subscribed his name to said will as a witness thereto at the request of said testator and in his presence and in the presence of the other subscribing witness.
