Schultz, 26, of 1725 Monroe street, member of a prominent Decatur family, was killed early this morning in a one-car accident two miles south of Fort Wayne on U.S. highway 27. The accident victim was pronounced dead on arrival at Lutheran hospital at 12:20 a.m. Dr. Richard E. Bower, Allen County coroner, listed cause of death as a broken neck and multiple internal injuries. The Decatur young man's death was the eighth traffic fatality of the year in Allen county. Investigating officers from Allen county said the Schultz auto was headed north on 27, two miles south of the Fort Wayne city limits, when it veered off the road and struck a bridge bannister. He was pinned in the wreckage. Authorities said he apparently fell asleep. Schultz was the son of Leo and Cordelia Worthman-Schultz, with whom he made his home. He was employed with his father at Baker & Schultz Construction Co. The accident victim was born in Decatur, Oct. 15, 1943, and graduated from Decatur Catholic high school in 1962. He spent four years, from 1963 to 1967, with the United States Air Force in Okinawa, Japan and Hawaii. Schultz was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Adams Post 43, American Legion and the Moose lodge. Surviving are his parents; four sisters, Mrs. Donald (Geraldine) Heck of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Paul (Mary) Hess of Decatur, Mrs. Michael (Jane) Beery of Decatur and Joyce Schultz, at home; six brothers, David G. Schultz of Decatur, James E. Schultz of Decatur, John Schultz, with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, and Tom, Fred and William Schultz, all at home; a step-grandmother, Mrs. Pearl Worthman of Decatur route 3; and 15 nieces and nephews. The body was removed to Zwick funeral home. Funeral arrangements have not been completed, pending word from the brother in Vietnam. The deceased was a brother of William Davis of Geneva. Mr. Davis died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday at his home following a prolonged illness. He was born October 23, 1882, in Mercer County, O., the son of Hiram and Lydia D. Harmon-Davis. A retired farmer, he was a member of Liberty Chapel church. On Nov. 3, 1906, he was married to the former Bessie Squier, who survives, with one son, Lowell Davis of Riberia Beach, Fla., two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Although third oldest of a family of six, the other five survive: four brothers, Bert, Clyde and Frank Davis of Rockford, O., and William of Geneva, and one sister, Mrs. James (Mary) Adams of Mendon. Stevens, 65, of Convoy, O., brother of Ralph Stevens of Decatur, died at 5:22 p.m. Wednesday in the Van Wert County Hospital. He had been ill the past 13 years. He was born in Wren, O., August 31, 1904, the son of Rolland B. and Iona M. Green-Stevens. He was married to Lela Pancake March 12, 1930, who preceded him in death March 12, 1934. He was married to Viola F. Heath on August 7, 1936 and she proceded him in death on May 29, 1963. Mr. Stevens was a life-long resident of Van Wert county, and was employed at Phelps Dodge, Fort Wayne. He was a member of the Convoy Methodist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Bobby (Mabel) Gibson of Duncanville, Tex., Mrs. Donald (Janella) Lovelette, of Monroeville, Mrs. Larry (Sharon) Morton of Monroeville; four sons, David J., Donald W., Gayle L., all of Van Wert and Gary P. of Ohio City; and one brother, Ralph of Decatur. Two sons and one sister preceded him in death. Mr. Stevens had 14 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stainfield Funeral Home, Convoy, with Rev. A native of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Miller was a member of one of Fort Wayne's oldest pioneer families. Two Ormiston brothers arrived in the area with Gen. Anthony Wayne in 1778. They received land grants and settled here with their holdings, containing most of what is now the south part of the city. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. He married Patricia E. Kintz on May 10, 1947, in Fort Wayne; she died on September 6, 2005. Fred and his wife owned Graphic Typesetters for 25 years and Gensic Creative Metals for several years. Fred was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Fort Wayne, American Legion Post 333 in Fort Wayne, and the Navy Club in New Haven. He attended annual reunions with fellow members of the VT 85 Squadron. He won a Purple Heart as a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Decatur Catholic High School. BUSICK DIES UNEXPECTEDLY Lester F. Busick, 63, of Decatur, route 3, died suddenly at 7:45 p.m. Monday at his home, six miles north of Decatur. Born in Root Township, Feb. 3, 1907, he was a son of Edward and Elise Franke-Busick, and was married to Alvina Scheumann June 9, 1934. Mr. Busick was a retired farmer and was formerly employed by the General Electric Co. in Fort Wayne for 17 years. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Dale D. Busick of Decatur route 3, and Don D. Busick of Monroeville route 2; one daughter, Mrs. Herbert (LaVerne) Boerger of Decatur route 3; one sister, Mrs. Edwin (Frieda) Herderhorst of Monroeville route 2; two brothers, Alfred and Herbert Busick, both of Decatur route 3; and 12 grandchildren. One son, Carl and one brother are deceased. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Zwick funeral home and 2 p.m. at the St. Peter's Luthan Church, with Rev. Roger Eden officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Wednesday until time of the services. CARRIE RHYMER DIES AT HOSPITAL Mrs. Carrie Rhymer, 59, of Monroeville, route 1, died at 3:40 p.m. Monday at the Adams County Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient one week. She was born in Kentucky but had resided in the Monroeville area for 17 years. She was a member of the Hi-Way Holiness Church of God at Riverhaven. Surviving are her husband, Chester; one son Earl Rhymer of Monroeville; four daughters, Mrs. Virginia Roy of Germantown, O., Mrs. Maxine Mohr and Mrs. Pauline Clevenger of Monroeville and Mrs. Judy Aker of Bluffton; two brothers, John Messer of Fairborn, O., and Robert Messer, Jr. of Kentucky; four sisters, Mrs. Stella Gamble, Mrs. Alice Bingham, Mrs. Chelsea Smith and Roxie Cox, all of Kentucky, her mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Messer, Sr., of Walker, Ky; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The body was removed to the E. Harper and Son Funeral Home at New Haven. Arnold Saylor officiating. Burial will be in the Monroeville memorial cemetery. Friends may call until 5 p.m. today at the E. She was born in Jefferson township, June 9, 1887, a daugher of Reuben and Cora Galloway-Myers, and was never married. Miss Myers was a member of the Maple Grove Church of Christ. Only survivors are the following nieces and nephews: Mrs. Tyler Miller, Decatur, with whom Miss Myers made home; Mrs. Roe (Donna) Lehman of Decatur, route 4; Spec. 6 Jerry Miller in Germany; Mrs. Charles (Peggy) Wilson of San Diego, Cal., Mrs. Patricia Ross of Blue Field, Va., and Robert R. Myers of Fort Wayne. One sister and one brother are deceased. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Winteregg-Linn funeral home, with Rev. Meyer Madson officiating. He had served as sexton of the Riverside Cemetery for 18 years. Born in Chattanooga, O., Aug. 15, 1888, he was a son of Michael and Mary Galer-Kuehn, and was married to Nettie Eaken April 21, 1919. Mr. Kuehn, a veteran of World War I, was a member of the First Presbyterian church and the Glen D. Eckhart Post 508 American Legion. Surviving in addition to his wife are the daughter, Mrs. Robert (Helen) Johnson of Decatur; three brothers, Walter Kuehn of Avilla, and Henry and Paul Kuehn, both of Elkhart; six sisters, Mrs. Della Miller of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Marie Weber of Clamath Falls, Ore., Mrs. Frieda Snyder of Nappanee, Mrs. Almeda Kunkle and Mrs. Anna Thebus of Elkhart, and Hulda Rosenbaum of Indianapolis; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A grandson, Jack Lee, was reared in the Kuehn home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home at Rockford, with Rev. Charles Haddock offociating. PALMER LIECHTY DIES UNEXPECTEDLY Dr. Palmer E. Liechty, 49, of 3428 Lona Drive, Fort Wayne, owner of Liechty Optometrists, was dead on arrival at midnight Saturday at the Lutheran Hospital. Dr. Liechty, veteran of both World War II and the Korean conflict, had resided in Fort Wayne 19 years. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church at Berne, and attended the Gospel Temple in Fort Wayne. He was a past president of the Village elementary school PTA, and president of the East Allen county school board. A graduate of Northern Illinois College of Optometry, Dr. Liechty was a member of the Travelers Protective Association, Amercian Legion post 330, New Haven, the Tuiana Club and Indiana Optometric Association. Survivng are his wife, Elva; three sons, Jason, sophomore at Indiana University, Jeffrey and Jerry at home; a daughter, Janice, at home; a sister, Mrs. Ellen Yoder of Berne; and two brothers, Dr. Ralph Liechty of Wooster, O., and Dr. Clinton Liechty of Loudonelle, O. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the D.O. McComb Funeral Home, Rev. Paul Edwardson officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at MRE Cemetery at Berne.
