I have some conflicting information and need help straightening it out, please. Victor Spangler Reed, son of John Reed and Matilda Spangler, married Mary E. Williams, then Alice Kirkendall. According to Adams Co records (either Book E, p. 187 or Book 9, p. 70 <thanks, Nola>), Alice Kirkendall's parents were James Kirkendall and Anna Dewill/Dewitt. Kirkendall researchers have indicated that Alice Belle Kirkendall, wife of Victor S. Reed, was the child of James Kirkendall and Catherine ? James and Catherine appear in the 1870 census of Adams Co, Washington Twp. with the following children: William, Alice B., and John N. Catherine died in 1875 and is buried in the Smith Cem., near Monroe, IN. In that same cemetary there is another wife of James Kirkendall, Matilda (abt. 1842-1907). I am looking for information on the GERKE family in Adams county (and Allen Co.) as well as the MEYER and MEYERS families. My father's mother was descended from Johan Diederich Gerke, who seems to be the first Stemshorn, Hannover, Germany. Several of his brothers, and maybe cousins, came shortly thereafter. Herman Gerke married Mary Agnes MEYER who was from the same region in Hannover. Louis Gerke married Clara Marie MEYERS, also from Hannover.
