    1. [INADAMS-L] Picture of Bert Mann
    2. Tim Singleton
    3. A couple of weeks ago I received a message, from this list I think, from someone who had a picture of an athletic team from around 1905 which contained Bert Mann. Unfortunately I don't have the message now, and I just discovered that Bert Mann is, in fact, part of the Mann family I'm researching. If anyone on this list has the photo, I'd like to get a copy. Thanks. 1. [INADAMS-L] Who We Are on the Web
    2. Tim Singleton
    3. I have the Who We Are list on a web page now. Go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inadams/adamsco.htm There is a link at the bottom of that page to the Adams Co. Genealogy web page, but there is no way to get to the Who We Are page except by using the above link. I did that on purpose so that only those of us on the list can get to it. If you have any problems, let me know. I'm going to be in and out of town over the next couple of weeks, so don't despair if I can't answer right away. 1. [INADAMS-L] Viruses and the Who We Are list
    2. Tim Singleton
    3. >From time to time I get messages from some well-meaning folks alerting me to such-and-such a virus that's being spread by email messages. So far, none of those messages have reached this list, and I hope they don't. I have seen dozens of such messages on various lists, and they all have been hoaxes. If you get such a message, please do not forward it onto this list. If you are concerned, email me privately, and I'll be glad to check it out with our computer experts on campus (Eastern Kentucky University). The true virus about these messages is that they get repeated over and over again, as people forward them to all their email lists, and they cause untold problems clogging up inboxes, and causing storage problems at places like RootsWeb, which is the host for this list. In all my years working with email, I have never seen a virus transmitted this way. If you are concerned, as you should be, get a good virus protection program that will screen all your incoming messages. True viruses don't announce themselves in advance. I'll transmit a new Who We Are list later tonight or tomorrow. After that I am going to place the list on a web page which you can access when you wish. I'll let you know what the address is when I've had a chance to load it. Once there, you'll be able to use the search feature in your browser (usually CTRL-F) to search the page for any surnames you are interested in. If you would like to be on the list, send me your name, email address, location, and Adams Co. surnames you are researching (in the following format please - it makes it easier to cut and paste into the list): Tim Singleton, tsingleton@iclub.org Richmond, KY SINGLETON, MANN, KIESS, MCCONNEHEY, MEWHORTER, WARNER The newest additions to the list will be marked with an asterisk. 3. That is cute but it would be funnier if it weren't true. I have a cousin who did just that - invented an ancestry for herself and published it in a widely sold book. And of course "everyone" believes it because it has been formally published. Never mind that there are no references given. Not only that but, the way she wrote it for publication, she has included my ancestor in with it all so now I can find my name in two places on Family Tree Maker's published World Family Tree CDs (#7 & #9) because someone fell for the phony genealogy and somehow tracked down my family and included us in their published "family history". 1. [INADAMS-L] Joseph HUDSON
    2. royh
    3. Hi All, I seem to have hit a small brick fence (I hesitate to call it a WALL, yet) on my husband's gr-gr-grandfather, Joseph Hudson. The earliest we can locate the family in Adams County is in the 1870 census. Previous to that, they were in Ohio. Ohio is where all their children were born, so they were there for at least 10 years. That is where it gets sticky....we can't find them in the 1860 Ohio census. Joseph was born in Va., his wife, Barbara, was born in Ohio. This we got from the 1870 Adams Co. census. We haven't been able to find where they were married, so we aren't sure if this was a first marriage or not. In the 1880 Adams Co. census, Joseph is not found, but Barbara is listed with their son, Thomas. We don't find a record of Joseph's death. Where did he go? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find out where Joseph went between 1870 & 1880, or how to find out where in Ohio they were located? Thanks for taking time to read this rather long & disjointed note. I'd appreciate any hints or helps. -- Judy Hudson GENEALOGY: The 'Real Theory Of Relativity'. 3. I get the humor, but a gross matrimonial error was made by the humorist right off the bat (unless he's rewriting history). Captain John Smith did not marry Pocahontas--John >Rolfe< did and took her back to England to the court of St. James. It's in the history books--it's also in my mother's genealogical tracing--Jeanette >Rolfe< Grandstaff (Grandstaff, of course, being an Adams county family). What linkages, eh? 1. [INADAMS-L] An Update for Who We Are
    2. Tim Singleton
    3. I've had several changes and additions to the list, so in a moment I'll send a separate message with the latest "Who We Are." Richard sent out a request for photos of the Scheumann bridge in Adams Co. Does that bridge still exist? If so, can you give me directions. I'd be glad to take a photo next time I'm there (hopefully in the next couple of months or so). 1. [INADAMS-L] the Scheumann Bridge
    2. Richard Scheimann
    3. Does any one out there have a good photo of the famous Scheumann Bridge, a rickety wooden structure over the St. Mary's River? I have a very bad photo made by photo copying a picture that had been laminated and mounted on a board! The result is very dark and lacking in detail. I have a second cousin in Adams County who tells me that when she used to walk across the Scheumann bridge, it would sway! I'd be grateful for any help. Hopefully, Richard Scheimann
