To earn this award I am sprucing up the old historic Blue Creek Cemetery (also called Tricker Cemetery) in Adams Co., Indiana I am seeking information about the cemetery and the people who are buried there, since many of the headstones are broken or missing. I will be writing a book about all those who are buried there as a part of my Girl Scout project. Since I don't want to omit any names, I'm asking anyone who has families buried in the old section of this cemetery to contact me. I need such information as names, dates of birth, death, marriage, names of children, occupation, and any other interesting bits of information Will you genealogists out there please help me by calling me, or my Mom, Kim Tinkham, at 219-592-7711, or write to me at 2658 S. If this following info is not your family, please pass the info on to other lists - who knows - maybe someone can be located from the family. Last month while in Virginia, I clipped an article from a newspaper - "VIRGINIAN REVIEW - Sat 15 Aug 1998". It had the heading "VA MAN TRYING TO FIND FAMILY TO RETURN BIBLE'. The article reads "YORK, Pa. - A Virginia man is trying to return a 100 year old Bible to the descendants of a York County, PA family. But finding them has not been an easy matter. Julian Gordon of Newport News, VA., came into possession of the Bible last year, when his father-in-law died. His father-in-law had purchased the Bible in 1973 at an auction in Delta. But trying to find the family, Gordon doesn't have much to go on - just a few names written inside and eight photographs. The name that occurs frequently is Stough. The York County telephone lists about 145 numbers for homes and businesses under that name. Gordon tried calling some of the Stoughs. A few were openly skeptical, apparently think the call was some kind of hoax..............." Inscriptions, photographs, and papers inside he bible tell: "it was given to Harry Isaiah Stough by his mother, Savannah on 25 Dec 1885. Harry had a brother named Ammon, who married Minnie F Welk. They had at least three children: Marie Florence; Laroy George; and Raymond Welk. Other papers mention Sevannia Wantz Stough and Lydia Wantz. The pictures were taken at Jeffres Art Studio in York. Mr Julian Gordon, according to the newspaper article has said he will send the bible and contents to anybody who can tie their family to Ammon and Harry Stough. The newspaper quotes him "It's there. I'll send it to them. I'll pay the postage," This will be quite a find if the right family can be located. Please pass this message on to other lists. We would all appreciate finding it if it was our family bible. I personally can tell you nothing more than what I have written here. Thank you MaryAnn In The Florida Panhandle

Cemetery I have just returned from my very successful trip to Berne and Adams County. I was able to find the Schwartz Cemetary and more!! If anyone else ever asks, the Peter Schwartz Amish Cemetary is located on 300S just east of US 27. The Hilty Cemetary is first and on the left side. Mostly Hilty, Mazelin and Steury families. Just a short distance away on the right side of the road is the Schwartz Cemetary. We had to open a gate and drive back a short distance. Most graves have only wooden markers with initials and dates. The "grandest marker" actually granite with engraving belonged to my aunt, Hulda Eicher who died as a child in 1916. One of her brothers must have done that in later years. The most amazing find was when we stopped for directions at an Amish home. The RomaN D. Schwartz family of 350S in Berne has put together a 266 page biography/obituary of every person in that cemetary. We were able to buy one for $14.50. What a wealth of informatin it has. Family stories and information that is a treasure. We bought this book at what looked like an Amish Adult Foster Care Home with Amish men in wheelchairs . They were extremely helpful to us. I left the address at my mother's house but can find it if you would like to see this Amish family history for yourself. Very, very impressive!!!!! Thanks again for all of your help. Judy

The Southern Regional Archive in Atlanta covers all the southern region states and they have the WWI draft registration cards on file for all those states by county, so if you are searching for info on an ancestor born around 1880 (ages I looked at varied 22-37 years old in 1917-1918 for the county of Dale, AL.) Then you can write that county's Court of Ordinary and request their discharge records. Or order the LDS microfilm "Military Discharges of WWI" for the county you ancestor filed in. Hope this helps someone. This is a well kept genealogy secret. Good Luck! Brenda Barfield ______________________________

    3. Hi All! I'm veerry faaar behind in my e-mail. To the tune of triple digits & may never get caught up! In fact I've deleted a lot w/o reading. So think I've missed something here. Is this a problem in IN or all states? I remember something that happened here (VA)abt a year or so ago. Someone was biuling a house out in the country & the bull dozer went over some gravesites under the brush. Construction halted untill they researched who was buried there AND found some living relatives. It seems it had been a Quaker family. The site was restored & I believe they put a fence around it. Needless to say , or maybe not, they didn't build the house on top of it! Also when they were builing the golf course where my husbnad works the same thing happened. They built around it, the graves are in a heavily wooded area & you'd never know they were there. The site is legally protected & marked off just in case you did stumble into the woods. So please tell me they aren't bull dozing graveyards in IN!!?? I've still got ancestors to find!!!!
