This is a day we should all give thanks to those who came before us and are so dear to our hearts. Mr Singleton I don't see where it is of your affair how many lists I subscribe to. If I choose to subscribe to every county in the US that is my concern. What I submit is also not for monitoring. I live in the United States which is a free country of free choice. I am offering an OPTION to research. Not everyone can do all their research on just ONE website I would question their results if they did. You received a message via this list from Debbie Carter. She subscribed to several county lists and sent out the same message. You may or may not choose to become part of that project, that's up to you. I just wanted you to be aware that it is a separate project from INGenWeb and the county sites I coordinate. Hi Folks, I have several more counties available for adoption if anyone is interested in one. 87 to be exact. If you would care to adopt one please drop me a line and let me know which county and I can direct you to where you go to apply for it, and if you are interested in helping or volunteering lookup services please email me and let me know which county and what resources you might have such as books, etc. I encourage everyone to click on the purple link under IN state contact under my name and then choose the county you have ancestors in and input some family data and place your names on the surnames list, so others see it. Hello to the list: Apologies to those who've seen this on the Switzerland list - hopefully someone in Indiana can help me? I am tracing my history to Christian Hanni (Apr 9 1825-Feb 4 1898) and Maria Riesen (Feb 27 1828-Nov 21 1903), who were born in Oberbalm, Canton Bern. They emigrated to the French Township, near Berne, Indiana, in the spring of 1887, along with their four sons Gottlieb, Fred, Albrecht, and Karl. They also brought along two grandsons, one unknown and one named John G. Hanna (he changed his name from Hanni to Hanna as an adult). John was born May 23, 1881 and died May 22, 1903, at Artillery School in Fortress Monroe, Virginia of appendicitis. His mother died in 1882, and his father, a policeman and mail coach driver, died in November 1884. Two daughters, Maria Muri and Elizabeth Muri, remained behind. They were still living at the time of Gottlieb's death in 1925 1) Is anyone out there researching this family? I have information only until 1968, thanks to the detailed work of Edna F. Baker. 2) Does anyone know the OTHER grandson's name and details? 3) The details I have indicate that none of the above-listed children were John's parents, although his surname indicates that his father was Christian and Maria's son. Might anyone have the details of who his parents were? Any help someone can give me would be greatly appreciated -- thanks in advance! You can subscribe to this list in one of two modes. The MAIL mode allows you to receive every posting to INADAMS as a separate email message. The DIGEST mode combines a days worth of postings, normally, and sends them to you as one large email message. All postings to the list will go to both groups automatically. You cannot subscribe to both the MAIL list and the DIGEST list at the same time. There's really no need to try, since both will receive the identical information. To subscribe, please follow these directions precisely: For the MAIL mode, send an email message to INADAMS-L-request@rootsweb.com. The message should have no subject, and the body should have ONLY the word subscribe and nothing else. Be sure to turn off or delete any signature that your email program may attach to your message. For the DIGEST mode, send an email message to INADAMS-D-request@rootsweb.com. Again, the message should have no subject, and the body should contain ONLY the word subscribe and nothing else, especially no signature. If you have problems email me (tsingleton@iclub.org). You will receive a confirmation message when you have subscribed. After that, you can post messages to everyone subscribed by sending your message to INADAMS-L@rootsweb.com, being sure to make your subject clear and concise. If you change email addresses, or want to stop receiving messages from the list, you must unsubscribe by sending email (again, no subject) with only the word unsubscribe in the body of the message to the appropriate address: INADAMS-L- request@rootsweb.com for the MAIL list, or INADAMS-D- request@rootsweb.com for the DIGEST mode. Hi everyone, Here are a couple of things to keep in mind: 1. Changing email address. If you change your email address, you should unsubscribe from this list using your old address before you stop using it, and then subscribe with your new one. If you don't unsubscribe your old address messages will start bouncing back to me when the address becomes invalid. Then I have to manually unsubscribe the address which is a bit more complicated than sending an email. In case you lost the instructions, I'll send the subscribe and unsubscribe instructions in a separate message. Please print them out and keep them for future reference. 2. Mailbox full. Some of you are using email services that have a limit on the number of messages that can reside in your mailbox. This can especially be a problem if you are away from your computer for several days and emails accumulate. Most internet providers will start bouncing messages if a user's box fills up. When that happens I have to unsubscribe the address manually. I have no way of notifying you, since any messages to the address are bounced back. If you're going to be gone for any length of time, it's wise to temporarily unsubscribe from any lists you are on, then resubscribe when you return. Thanks for your cooperation and good luck with your genealogy. Hi Folks, I received this message today. If anyone can help, please contact him directly. He included a couple of photos which I cannot distribute on this list, but I'm sure he'd be glad to send them to you. ---------- Hello, I am a postcard collector and I recently acquired some wonderful old real photo postcards of members of the Artman family that were living in Decatur Indiana in the 1908-1911 period. Specifically, I think I have some photos of a Miss Ruby Artman or Jim Artman that would be of great interest to any descendants. Do you possibly have any information on this family or know of a local resource where I could find some information? I'll attach a few photos. Can you identify the building in the background? Thank You Jim Green Bellingham, Wa jgreen@az.com ---------------- Tim Singleton, tsingleton@iclub.org 105 Nancy Drive Richmond, KY 40475-8613 Volunteer INGenWeb Coordinator Adams Co. - http://www.rootsweb.com/~inadams Randolph Co. - http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/
To all Veterans In Flanders Fields by Major John McCrae In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. (Poppies only grow on disturbed soil......the disturbed soil of Belgium's battle weary farmland and graveyards during WW1.)
October 25, 1999 Hello, I understand that the Clark Chapel Cemetery is located in Union Township, at the corner of CR 1050N and 600E. (About 5 miles East of and 4 miles North of Decatur, IN). My great-great grandfather James Stevens / Stephens and great-great grandmother Sarah Stevens / Stephens are buried there. James Stevens/Stephens was born about 1812 in PA; Sarah Stevens/Stephens was born about 1814 in PA. Would someone be willing to take photos of their headstones,(so I can read the inscriptions on them), for me? I will gladly pay a fee for the film and development of the photos. Thanks very much to the 'someone' in advance, Mrs. Janet A. Nelson I can be contacted at: j.nelson@mciworld.com

A friend just emailed me this information about the War of the Rebellion index: The last vol. of the 80 vols. published is an index volume. Cornell is planning a search engine but until then, this is at least some help. If you jump to about page 300, you can begin to get a feel where you are in the index. The first several pages of the vol. are "corrections and additions" pages, so if you don't jump ahead, you have to go through those... >From Pat Lenhart: Does anyone have other lists of Civil War units other than the ones posted on the Adams Co, website or the ones in the Decatur Library? I'm looking for William McDaniel and James McDaniel (brothers from Blue Creek Twp). Their names are listed on the memorial on courthouse square in Decatur. I cannot find them listed in the units posted above. I find no further record of James McDaniel. William McDaniel died in a conflict near Atlanta, Ga. Family legend says he was either captured and a prisoner for a while and/or then died at Dallas, Ga, near Atlanta in Dec. of 1864. William & wife, Mary Foreman were in Blackcreek Twp, Mercer Co, Oh, near the Foreman families in the 1860 census. The McDaniel homestead was in BlueCreek Twp, Adams Co, IN near the Ohio border. There are about a dozen Wm. McDaniel's listed from both Ohio and Indiana in the Civil War Index. The last name could have been listed as McDonald. This was a common misinterpretation, but the McDaniel ancestors in Greene Co, OH actually adopted McDonald sometime in the 1840's after this family moved to Adams Co because they discovered their roots from the McDonald clan in Ireland.
>From Pat Lenhart. Does anyone have any information on Hannah Cross buried at Alpha U B Cem in Root Twp? Those in the record buried before and after her: LINHARD, Sarah J., dau of F L & L Linhard, d. Here's something new: The War of the Rebellion is a compilation of the official records of the Union and Confederate armies published under the direction of the Secretary of War, The Honorary Elihu Root, Brig. Gen. Fred. C. Ainsworth, the Chief of the Record and Pension Office, U.S. War Department, and Mr. Joseph W. Kirkley. It includes scanned images of reports, correspondence, seizures of Southern property, etc. sent to the War Dept. during the Civil War, including both Union and Confederate accounts. It is in chronological order but there is no online index. Check your local library for an index. The link is on the Adams Co. page, or click here: http://moa.cit.cornell.edu/MOA/MOA-JOURNALS2/WARO.html Tim Singleton, tsingleton@iclub.org 105 Nancy Drive Richmond, KY 40475-8613 Volunteer INGenWeb Coordinator Adams Co. - http://www.rootsweb.com/~inadams Randolph Co. - http://www.rootsweb.com/~inrandol/
Pat, Thanks so much. The Patrick/Ireland Kelley family isn't mine. Also I have the 1979 History but didn't look in it. duh. Actually I've geaned all the info from it on my lines, but if I'd opened it up I would have known! I'll tell you a funny story abt these 2 Kelly/Kelley families if all of you descended from Patrick promise not to hold it against me! My Great-Grandmother was Katie Kelly, daughter of Jonathan Kelly & wife of Frank Scoles. She told her children that her father had told them "our Kelly's are NOT Irish!". Well I can imagine the reason she said this, her Kelly's were most likely Scots-Irish, Protestant, & I know they had been here in the US since at least the time of the Revolution. Jonathan Kelly was making a distinction between his Kelly ancestors & the "newcomers" from Ireland. I found this other Kelley family in the census & noted that they didn't live too far away from "my" Kelly's. It was then that I remembered what my Grandmother had told us! Thanks again. Oh I have other related Sipes too, seems they were popular in Adams Co! :>) Cindy Torres Owens Stafford, VA cindyo@staffnet.com http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/o/w/e/Cindy-L-Owens/index.html
Hi All, While looking through the online (at FTM) Adams Co birth/marriage/death records I found a few interesting tidbits. First was the 2nd marriage of Jonathan Kelly! His wife, Sarah Kerrigan died 1855. On June 19, 1856 a Jonathan Kelly marries Ellen Lewis. This fits w/ what I have for the 1860 census, Jonathan & Ellen are listed along w/ another Ellen Kelly & Susannah Cole. I still don't know who the 2nd Ellen Kelly & Susannah Cole are. I'm sure this was a 2nd marriage for Ellen Lewis as well but I don't know who she is. She must have died before 1870 as Jonathan is living w/ his son Justus & Ellen isn't listed. I wonder if Ellen is buried next to her first husband? Whoever he was! Attention AA & AR: I found a James/Charles Kelly in the right time frame to be who Grandmother remembers. What do you think? 1 James Kelly b: May 29, 1869 Jefferson, Adams Co.,IN (brother of Katie Kelly Scoles) .. +Ida Hull . 2 John Kelly . 2 Charles Kelly b: Oct 2, 1890 Adams Co., IN ..... +Minerva Liechty m: May 27, 1911 Adams Co., IN ..... 3 Lucile M.
