    1. [INADAMS] Barnetts in Indiana
    2. Anne Marie Kaspar
    3. I saw this posting on the Barnett List. I too am interested in finding out where the children went. My great-great-grandmother was Viola Barnett, b. 3-9-1872, who married Alva C. Hower. I have been unsuccessful finding out anything about her, other than she and Alva lived in the Decatur area according to the 1908 Adams Co. Directory. See below: >>Date: Sat, 8 Apr 2000 15:49:22 EDT >>From: MGODALPM@aol.com >>To: BARNETT-L@rootsweb.com >>Subject: Barnett of Indiana >>Looking for Samuel Barnett b. abt. 1830 in PA and >>married to Elizabeth Lewis. Samuel and Elizabeth >>settled in Montgomery Co., IN. In 1862 their five >>children were all left with different families and >>were raised by these families. They never saw their >>parents again. Don't know what happened to them. >>George Barnett, b. 1859 was left with Hugh Campbell >>and Atlanta Dain. >>Any info greatly appreciated. >>Linda I realize that these Barnetts went to Montgomery Co, but could the children have been given to Barnett family members in Adams Co? 3. Genealogical Standards Standards For Sound Genealogical Research Recommended by the National Genealogical Society Remembering always that they are engaged in a quest for truth, family history researchers consistently—— --- record the source for each item of information they collect. --- test every hypothesis or theory against credible evidence, and reject those that are not supported by the evidence. --- seek original records, or reproduced images of them when there is reasonable assurance they have not been altered, as the basis for their research conclusions. --- use compilations, communications and published works, whether paper or electronic, primarily for their value as guides to locating the original records. --- state something as a fact only when it is supported by convincing evidence, and identify the evidence when communicating the fact to others. --- limit with words like "probable" or "possible" any statement that is based on less than convincing evidence, and state the reasons for concluding that it is probable or possible. --- avoid misleading other researchers by either intentionally or carelessly distributing or publishing inaccurate information. --- state carefully and honestly the results of their own research, and acknowledge all use of other researchers’’ work. --- recognize the collegial nature of genealogical research by making their work available to others through publication, or by placing copies in appropriate libraries or repositories, and by welcoming critical comment. --- consider with open minds new evidence or the comments of others on their work and the conclusions they have reached. ©1997 by National Genealogical Society. 1. [INADAMS] Frederick Rice Family reunion
    2. The Frederick Rice Family reunion will be held July 1, 2000, on the old RICE homestead on the grounds of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC). Frederick RICE was the only son of Barnhart RICE, who immigrated from Germany between 1728 and 1746. After serving in the Revolutionary War, Frederick married Anna Catherine LAUFFER in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. They later moved to Wayne County, Ohio, near Wooster. A number of Frederick and Catherine RICE's descendants migrated to Indiana from Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania in the mid-1800s and settled in northeastern Indiana, particularly in the counties of Huntington, Allen, Whitley, Wabash, Wells, Adams, and Jay. The Frederick Rice Family reunion committee is preparing an update of the Genealogy of the Frederick Rice Family. If you are descended from Frederick and Catherine Rice, please contact the reunion committee and update your family information. You will find more about Frederick RICE and his family and more information about the upcoming reunion at the OARDC, accommodations and local attractions at these links: Frederick Rice Family homepage: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~frederickrice/ Rootsweb WorldConnect Frederick Rice Family page http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=frederickrice Gary Rice Roanoke, Indiana

    3. Hi all! I was wondering if there's anyone who lives in close proximity to either the Sugar Ridge Cemetery or the Stevenson Cemetery; I believe both are in Monroe Twp, either Adams or Allen County, or perhaps smack-dab on the county line, who'd be willing to do a little sleuthing for three people: Samuel WHITRIGHT (b.1818 d. after Apr 1891), Anna Nancy (COBLE) WHITRIGHT (b.1821 d. 1888), and Elias WHITRIGHT (b.1848 d. 1877). Please, please, PLEASE contact either me at sjwhitright@hotmail.com or my cousin, Elias's ggranddaughter Jean Fazzone at JEANFAZZ@aol.com if you would be willing to tackle this venture. Thanks! 1. [INADAMS] Looking (in vain) for William and Mary Clayton, daughter Nettie in Allen County, IN
    2. Steven J. Whitright
    3. Hello all! I am having no luck finding information on William and Mary Elizabeth (neé WHITRIGHT) CLAYTON, who married 27 Jun 1867 in Adams Co, IN, and had at least one child, Nettie, born 1871, who married Thomas J. SOLLERS on 11 May 1895 in Allen Co, IN. Is there anyone who is familiar with these names, perhaps is a descendant or researcher of these particular CLAYTONs or SOLLERSes, who could help me find the descendants of these ancestors? I have just listed every last fact that I know about the four of them. I don't even know if William and Mary had children. One problem I'm having is there were many English William CLAYTONs and Mary CLAYTONs at this time, so I've seen many dead ends! I have faith in someone being able to help -- these lists have been so helpful before! Thank you! Steven J. 3. Steven I checked my Adams and Wells Will books thru 1880, and no Whitwright will was entered. The 1979 Adams County History states that Adam (his brother?) b. 1856 did not die until 1929. You might want to check his estate papers for any mention of Samuel. My 1908 City Directory shows Abe and Ida on 5th, with children Samuel and Abe. Ed and Blanche on Elm, with no children or boarders. No other Whittrights in the 1908 directory in other parts of the county. The 1989 Supplement shows that the Mrs. Whitright's Grocery on Adams and 7th Street was sold 2-21-1907. Maybe that was a significant date if Samuel/and or spouse owned the store??? No much but someetimes little things help trigger.... Rich in Tampa R. W. And she is buried in Willshire Cemetary, with her husband Henry Huston. Tried to get a birth certificate and Adams County said they had no record. Don't know where to look from there. 1. [INADAMS] Roop, Miller and others
    2. Margie Pearce
    3. Debra, I just recently found out about Elizabeth Kemp Roop's family with the aid of a couple of Kemp researchers. There is no direct proof that she is the daughter of David Kemp and Sarah Patricia Ward, but the circumstantial evidence is considerable: Her birthdate matches David's daughter in the census. David's daughter Elizabeth was listed as born in PA in one census and OH in another. The Kemp family moved to Seneca Co, OH about 1815, so Elizabeth Kemp Roop's birthplace of OH would be correct. Joseph Roop left Huntingdon Co, PA, in 1835, married EKR in 1836, in OH, and bought land within five miles of David and Sarah Kemp's farm in Venice Twp. Joseph had siblings (sister Elizabeth m. Wm. Lingafelter, brother Amos m. Rachel Croningnor, brother Jacob m. Nancy Lewis) all lived in Seneca Co, OH, in 1834. In the 1830 census of Seneca Co, Jacob Rupe and David Kemp are listed next door to each other in Venice Twp. David and Sarah Kemp were members of the United Brethren Church. EKR's obit stated that her funeral services were conducted by a the UBC. Joseph's obit stated he had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for 40 years. Both families followed the same line of migration: PA to OH to IN. I am satisfied that Elizabeth Kemp Roop was the daughter of David and Sarah Kemp. I have more information on David and Sarah. David's parents were John W. Kemp and Mary Miller. There is a lot of discussion on the parents of John and I don't know a thing about Mary Miller, except that John and Mary were married c1768 in Frederick Co, MD. I will be happy to share whatever information I have on the Kemp family. I have several Millers in my files, but have not tied them together. Can you shed any light on any of these Millers?
