Red Sovine of country music fame came from the West Virginia branch of the family. At least I THINK they may be a branch way, way back. But, at present, I can't tie them to the IN and OH branches of the family, which go back to the 1600s in Switzerland. Best, BarBara

Since Tim Singleton just mentioned the WPA birth, death and marriage indexes, I thought I would add that I have this film on indefinite loan at my local Family History Center, and would be happy to do lookups. 3. Hi Everyone, I usually don't surf the fee based genealogy internet sites, since there's so much available free, but I got a free 2 month subscription to Genealogy.com (because they just discontinued the software I use) and discovered that they have the WPA birth, death and marriage indexes on line. I don't know how they aquired them, nor how accurate the transcription is, but thought you might like to know about it. I don't know what the fees are for genealogy.com or whether it's worth paying for a subscription. I just found the indexes when I searched for my surname, Singleton. It's worth repeating as a reminder that just because you find something on the internet it doesn't mean it is true. You still should verify details with primary information when possible. This reading was done in the late 1950's probably. There are two Penningtons buried at St Joseph Cemetery, also in Decatur. They are Charles and Mary, with urns only, no further information given. According to the Adams County Indiana Death Records Index, Charles lived 3-20-1878 to 9-24-1933, and Mary died at age 37 years 11 mo and 9 days on 1-3-1916. This index (ACIDRI) does list a William H. Pennington, born Oct 28 1873 living in Decatur at his death Feb 17 1957. He is buried at Maplewood. His funeral was handled by Zwick Funeral Home as was Charles'. You may contact Bill Zwick at 520 N 2nd Street, Decatur, IN 46733 and request copies of the records and obituaries found in book ZSJ01p229 for Charles and ZSJGD3p190 for William. Good luck.

    2. Let's all take a moment to remember those military ancestors who have gone before us. john peterson, ozona, florida "Soldier Buried on the Battlefield" And when the wind in the tree-tops roared, The soldier asked from the deep dark grave: "Did the banner flutter then?" "Not so, my hero," the wind replied. "The fight is done, but the banner won, Thy comrades of old have borne it hence, Have borne it in triumph hence." Then the soldier spake from the deep dark grave: "I am content."   Then he heareth the lovers laughing pass, and the soldier asks once more: "Are these not the voices of them that love, That love--and remember me?" "Not so, my hero," the lovers say, "We are those that remember not; For the spring has come and the earth has smiled, And the dead must be forgot." Then the soldier spake from the deep dark grave: "I am content."
