He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Schumm, a veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion in Rockford. His wife, the former Leahline Case, died in 1981. Survivors include two sons, Jim, of near Rockford, and John, at home; a daughter, Kay Schumm, at home; one sister, Hildred Schumm, route 1, Willshire; and three grandchildren. Drake Dies Last Evening Clarence F. Drake, 71, of 636 North Seventh Street, a retired G. E. employee, was pronounced dead on arrival at 8:05 p.m. Sunday at the Adams County Memorial Hospital. Death was attributed to a coronary and was unexpected. He was born in Mercer County, Ohio, April 27, 1894, a son of William and Lunetta Krick Drake, and was married to Gladys Gephart, January 23, 1915. Mr. Drake was a member of the Union Chapel Evangelical United Brethren Church and the 39's Club. He was employed for many years at the Decatur plant of the General Electric Co. until his retirement. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Robert E. Drake of Decatur, Clarence F. Drake, Jr., of Van Wert, Ohio, and Ronald E. Krick, 323 Line Street, died at 7:10 o'clock Sunday morning at the Castle Convalescent Home at Van Wert, Ohio. She had been in ill health for several years and was removed to Van Wert six weeks ago. She was born in Decatur October 18, 1875, a daughter of John and Mary Kleinhenz, and was a life-long resident of this city. She was a member of the St Mary's Catholic Church and the St Mary's Society. Surviving in addition to her husband are one son, Arthur William Krick of Hamilton, Ohio; one grandson David Allen Krick; a sister, Miss Rose Kleinhenz, and a brother, Arthur Kleinhenz, both of Decatur. Two children preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Msgr. J. J. Seimetz officiating. Krick, 85, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday in St. Rita's Hospital, Lima, Ohio, following an illness of three days. He had lived in Lima, Ohio, since his retirement in 1949. The former Decatur mayor was born February 16, 1879 in Decatur, the son of Henry and Sarah Mangold Krick. His father was in the brick and tile business, and he worked with him, eventually becoming president of the Krick-Tyndall Tile Co. in the 1920's. Long Time Mayor He was married to the former Mary Kleinhenz on June 26, 1906 by the Rev. H. Theodore Wilkin. He served as a Democrat on the Decatur City council from 1922-1925, and in the latter year defeated Avon Burk for mayor, 1,261 to 1,160. He was reelected in 1929 over Burk, 1,325 to 1,037. The legislature gave him an extra year in 1924, and he served nine years as mayor, longer than any other Decatur mayor. Ed Miller was his chief of police, and Jack Friedt his fire chief. Catherine Kauffman and Mrs. Alice Christen served as clerk, and city councilmen during the eight-year period included Fred Linn, Joseph Hunter, O. L. Vance, A.R. Ashbaucher, George Appleman and Herman Gillig. His treasurers were Luella M. Magley and Mrs. Ada Martin. Retired in 1949 His wife, Mary, died in 1948, and he retired to Lima, Ohio in 1949. They lived at 323 Line Street in Decatur. He is a former member of the Decatur Rotary Club, and was a member of the St Rose Catholic Church and Holy Name Society at Lima, Ohio, and the Elk's Lodge of Decatur. Mr. Krick was recovering from a minor surgery, and was in the best of spirits, when he suddenly lapsed into a coma Tuesday and was taken immediately to St. Rita's Hospital. He was living with his son and family until his injury. Survivors include his brother, Virgil (Pete) Krick, of Decatur; two sisters, Miss Agnes Krick of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Dallas Butler, of Fort Wayne; one son, Arthur William, of Lima, Oho, and two grandchildren. One brother Walter Krick, former Decatur school superintendent, preceded him in death. Services Here Monday Friends may call at the Cantwell-Sweet Mortuary in Lima, Ohio, after 8 p.m. Saturday, and until 10 p.m. Sunday. Decatur Dailey Democrat, Adams Co, IN; Wednesday, 10 May 1944 Mrs. Myrtle Murray Dies In California Former Local Lady Is Taken By Death Mrs. Myrtle Murray, 74, former resident of Decatur, died Tuesday morning at a hospital in San Diego, Calif., relatives here were advised today. Death followed a stroke which she suffered a week ago at her home in that city. Mrs. Murray was born in St. Mary's township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Roop. She was married to Ed Murry, who died several years ago. Mr. Murray operated a mill in this city. The family left Decatur about 20 years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ted Sowers of Warren, O.; four sons, Robert and Richard Murray, both employed at the Consolidated Aircraft factory in San Diego; Harry, civilian employe at Baer Field, Fort Wayne, and Lawrence Murray of Warren, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Hild Murray of Decatur and two brothers, Richard Roop of Decatur and Charles Roop of Hammond. Dolch, 56, contractor and builder, died at his home, 642 Mercer Avenue, at 12:15 o'clock this afternoon, following an extended illness. Death was due to complications. Mr. Dolch had been ailing for several months but had not been bedfast until the last five weeks. Mr. Dolch resided in Adams County and Decatur for a number of years. He was born near Tiffin, Ohio, June 26, 1878, a son of Jacob and Catherine Dolch, deceased. His marriage to Dessie Krick of this city took place August 25, 1908. Mr. Dolch resided in Adams County for about 30 years. Three years ago he moved with his family to this city from Toledo, Ohio, where they had resided for the last 23 years. He was a member of the United Brethren Church in Toledo. Surviving besides the widow, are two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Dolch, English teacher in the Holland, Ohio schools and Miss Virginia Dolch of this city. Two brothers, Jacob of Blue Creek Township and Henry of near Portland, and a sister Mary of Monroe, also survive. Private funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home, 642 Mercer Avenue, with Rev. H. R. Carson, pastor of the local Methodist Episcopal church officiating. Maxwell, 51, Depew, N.Y., were killed instantly early Wednesday morning when they tried to walk across U.S. 24 East near Hartzell Road and crossed the path of an oncoming truck near New Haven. Both suffered massive head and chest injuries when they were struck by the semi driven by Tom H. Schielke, 38, Fort Wayne. Police said that Maxwell had parked his semi-tractor trailer in a parking lot and investigators added that they do not know why Ms. Stetler and Maxwell were trying to cross the highway. It was speculated that they were trying to get to Ms. Stetler's trailer in a mobile home park on the other side of the road. No arrests have been made, but the investigation is being continued by the Allen County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police. Ms. Stetler, a member of the Willshire United Brethren Church, was born in Decatur on Sept. 23, 1956, the daughter of Charles (Chub) Stetler and the former Sharon Fisher. Survivors include the father, of Decatur, the mother, Mrs. Robert (Sharon) Garnett, New Haven; three children: Chris, Jamie and Brandon; the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Baker, Rt. 7, Decatur; four sisters, Mrs. Jerry (Penny) Browning, Bluffton; Kathy Stetler, Decatur; Mrs. Ron (Mary Beth) Manley, Rt. 6, Decatur; and Tonya Stetler, Decatur; and two brothers, William Stetler, Decatur, and Charles Stetler, McCord Air Force Base, Washington. Death occurred there Saturday evening at eight o'clock, following an illness of a year or more from cancer of the stomach. For nine weeks he was bedfast. Prior to receiving the death message relatives had a letter informing them that he was very low and that death was probable at any time, so that the telegram and that death was probable at any time, so that the telegram of his death was not unexpected. The body will be brought here for burial and will leave Saginaw Tuesday morning at eight o'clock, arriving here at 8:25 Tuesday evening over the Clover Leaf. Surviving children are Mrs. J. D. Tremaine, Beaverton, Mich.; Will Fuhrman, of Saginaw, Mich., with whom he made his home.; Mrs. D. Roebuck, Coleman, Mich; Hubert, a soldier in camp in Texas. A son Albert is deceased. Mrs. Louise Garard of this city is his only full sister. Half-brothers and sisters are Mrs. Barbara Weigert, of Beemer, Neb.; Jake and Henry Fuhrman of Nebraska; Mrs. Fred Ketker, Fort Wayne; Mrs. Harry Kooken, Mrs. Chester Buhler, Hammond; Christ Longenbacher, of this city. Death followed a stroke which she suffered a week ago at her home in that city. Mrs. Murray was born in St. Mary's township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Roop. She was married to Ed Murry, who died several years ago. Mr. Murray operated a mill in this city. The family left Decatur about 20 years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ted Sowers of Warren, O.; four sons, Robert and Richard Murray, both employed at the Consolidated Aircraft factory in San Diego; Harry, civilian employe at Baer Field, Fort Wayne, and Lawrence Murray of Warren, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Hild Murray of Decatur and two brothers, Richard Roop of Decatur and Charles Roop of Hammond. P. Ball, 429 Line street, after a year's illness of complications. She was brought here two weeks ago from Saginaw, Mich. She was born in Decatur March 23, 1891, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. P. Ball and had lived in Saginaw for --- (blotch) 31 years. She was a member of the Methodist church at Saginaw. Surviving in addition to the mother are the husband, William H. Frost; one son, Robert Witham, of Decatur; one brother, Charles Ball of Avon, N. Y., and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Gillig & Doan funeral home, with the Rev. Carey R. Moser officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur cemetery. Johnson, 82, retired farmer residing at Monroe, died at 12:15 o'clock this morning at the Parkview memorial hospital in Fort Wayne. He had been ill for the past five years. He was born in Adams county Dec. 18, 1877, a son of Samuel and Susanna Everhart-Johnson, and was married March 19, 1899. His wife preceded him in death June 30, 1955. Mr. Johnson was a resident of Monroe township most of his life. Surviving are two sons, Floyd F. Johnson of Fort Wayne, and Rolla E. Johnson of Riverside, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Wilfred (Mildred) Ray of South Whitley; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Zwick funeral home, the Rev. Vernon Riley officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur cemetery. Hunnicutt, 56, Willshire, Ohio, died at 7:39 p.m. Thursday in Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, after having been in failing health for two month. He lived in Willshire the past 28 years. He was born on March 31, 1935 in Huntington County and married Barbera P. Huffman in 1963; she survives. He retired in 1987 after a 27-year career with International Harvester and Navistar. He attended Willshire United Brethren Church and was a member of Willshire American Legion Post 207, Decatur Moose Lodge 1311, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars post at Huntington. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Other survivors are a son, Timothy J. Hunnicutt, Rockford, Ohio; three brothers, Paul Hunnicutt, Huntington; John Hunnicutt, Fort Wayne; and Fred Hunnicutt, Old Town, Florida; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Doris) DeArmond, Bluffton; and four grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters are deceased. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Sunday (Indiana time) in Zwick-Sefton and Jahn Funeral Home, with burial in Willshire Cemetery, including full military graveside rites by Post 207 of the American Legion. Visiting hours are 2-9 p.m. Saturday and noon-2 p.m. Sunday (Indiana times). Preferred memorials are to the church or the Willshire-Wren EMS.
