    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: MargieRoopPearce Surnames: Hirschy Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.indiana.counties.adams/3057/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Decatur Daily Democrat, Adams Co, IN; Tuesday, 17 March 1925 Dr. Noah C. Hirschy And Son Die Suddenly Berne, March 17 - The friends and relatives in this community were greatly shocked on Friday afternoon when Amos Hirschy received a telegram from the Dr. Noah C. Hirschy family of Berea, Ky, stating the sad news that a double death had occurred in their family. The dead are, Dr. Hirschy and his son, Herman, who died on a ranch in northern New Mexico at midnight, Tuesday night. Dr. Hirschy passed away at noon Friday in Berea after suffering several weeks from complications that developed after an attack of the influenza. His son died very suddenly. On Tuesday evening, the young Mr. Hirschy showed symptoms of the flu and because of physical weaknesses he developed complications that ended his life in a few hours. A very impressive funeral service was held in Berea College church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Dr. Hirschy was the Botany instructor in the college at Berea during the past five years, where he was held in high respect and esteem by the students in that institution. The college was in charge of the funeral. The body of his son was returned to the parental home on Saturday and the funeral services were held yesterday afternoon. C. P., Elias and Amos Hirschy of Berne, brothers of Dr. Hirschy, and Tilman and Miss Erna Hirschy, and Mr. and Mrs. Menno Hirschy and Harve Hirschy of Plainwell, Mich. attended the funeral services. Dr. Hirschy was very well known in Berne, however his son was known by few here outside the circle of his relatives. Dr. Hirschy was born on of (sic) Berne, and grew to manhood in the Hirschy homestead, a mile south of this vicinity. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Hirschy and was born Feb. 25, 1867, bringing his age to 58 years. Dr. Hirschy is survived by his widow and one child, a daughter, Miss Lois. She and her deceased brother were the only children in the family. Six brothers also survive. They are Chris P., Elias, John and Amos of Berne, Jacob of VanNuys, California, and Joel of Plainwell, Michigan. A brother, David, of Berne, and a sister in Michigan preceded him in death. His son, whose body was buried yesterday, was born Jan. 11, 1898. He was married to a Berea young lady six months ago who survives. Author: MargieRoopPearce Surnames: Moses Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.indiana.counties.adams/3056/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Decatur Daily Democrat, Adams Co, IN; Monday, 2 Jun 1924 GERTRUDE MOSES DIED YESTERDAY Accomplished Artist Died At Home Of Parents In This City Miss Gertrude Moses, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Moses, died at the family home on North Second street at 3:30 Sunday afternoon, following an acute illness of about a week. Miss Moses was an artist in music and, until a few years ago when her health began to fail, was recognized over the country as a pianist of most unusual ability. She was a graduate of the American Conservatory of Music at Chicago and a post-graduate of that institution, receiving a medal of honor at her graduation. She attended Northwester University, at Evanston, for a year, her companion at that time being Mrs. Edith Monica Stults, well known musician of Evanston. Miss Moses then accepted a position as an instructor in the piano department of the music section of the Yankton College, Yankton, South Dakota, where she taught several years. She played with the John Thomas orchestra, now the Chicago Symphony orchestra, of Chicago, with the Minneapolis Symphony orchestra, where she gave up a three months tour of the state on account of her health. She was a member of the famous Tucson, Arizona Womans Club and represented them as a delegate to the convention for western ! club women at Nogales, where she had charge of a musical which attracted wide attention. About eleven years ago Miss Moses began to suffer from rheumatism and since then, assisted by her good parents, has been treated in all the leading sanitariums of this country, at Mt. Clemens, Attica, Denver, Hot Springs, Tucson, West Baden and many other places and with her mother a few years ago visited Badennauheim Springs, Germany. The leading physicians of the country including Drs. Billings and Post, of Chicago, the Mayo Brothers, Dr. G. H. Pearson of Mt. Clemens and others were consulted. During the past three years she has been unable, however, to continue her work in music, devoting all her time to an effort to recover her health. Her condition this spring had been better than for several years and she was planning a visit to Yankton in a few weeks. About two weeks ago complications of the stomach caused a relapse and last Monday she collapsed, her system evidently effected by poisons created by her illness and the medicine. She never regained consciousness,! sleeping quietly away yesterday afternoon. Her relatives and friends are heartbroken over her death. She was a young woman of unusual ability and rare attainment and her death is sincerely mourned. Surviving are the mother and father, a beloved niece, Miss Mary Gage Moses who had made her home with the Moses family since a small child, and many other relatives and friends. The deceased was a member of the First Presbyterian church of this city, an honorary member of the Indiana Society of Chicago where she had taken a part in several programs, and a member of the Woman's Amateur Musical Club of Chicago. The funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 from the home, Rev. E. A. Allen, of College Corners, Ohio, officiating. Friends may call at the residence to view the remains between 2 and 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon and between 7 and 9 o'clock Tuesday night. In 1910 they are in Shelby County, Alabama. Mary Ann died in 1911 and is buried in Craighead County, Arkansas. James may have re-married there that year, but he is back in Shelby County, Alabama in the 1920 census. The children listed in the 1910 census are John, age 26, born in Indiana; Frank, age 14, born in Kentucky; Mary Ann, age 9, born in Alabama; and Samuel, age 6, born in Alabama. However, according to his WWI Draft Registration, the son James Franklin (listed as Frank in the census) was born in Florida. Any advice would be much appreciated.
