Mr. Gephart had suffered a number of strokes during the past five years and was bedfast the last seven months. He was born in Adams county, January 16, 1860, the son of Henry and Mary Gephart. On April 10, 1888 he was united in marriage to Amanda Hocker. Surviving is the widow, and eleven children: Edward, of Fort Wayne; Joseph, Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. May Hullinger, Lima, Ohio; Mrs. Clarence Drake, this city; Basil, Wren, O.; David, Warren, O.; Owen, Van Wert, O.; Mrs. Byron Myers and Mrs Curt Tumbleson, Wren, O.; Forrest, Warren, Ohio, Lucille Lillich, Fort Wayne, 21 grandchildren, and two great granddaughters. One brother, C. C. Gephart of Ohio City and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Flager of Ohio City, O., and Mrs. John Helm of this city also survive. The deceased lived in Adams county until 40 years ago when he moved on a farm near Wren, Ohio where he spent the remainder of his life. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock (EST) at the home and at 2:30 o'clock (EST) at the United Brethren church of Wren, Ohio. Rev. Vernon Sullivan of Custer, Ohio will officiate, assisted by Rev. R. E. Vance of this city. Burial will be in the Wren mausoleum. Mrs. Susannah Johnson, aged seventy-three, nearly a life-long resident of the county, died this morning at 4:45 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lida May Watkins, at Monroe, after a long illness of stomach trouble. Mrs. Johnson was the widow of Samuel Johnson, who passed away in November, 1910. She was the daughter of Philip Everhart, a native of Pennsylvania, and was born in Ohio April 23, 1841. The greater part of her life, however, was spent in the vicinity of her death, where she was known as a most excellent woman. Besides the daughter, named before, she is survived by two sons, Marion Johnson of Lagrange and John Johnson of this county. A daughter died in infancy. She has one brother, David Everhart, living in Monroe; and two sisters - Rebecca Hickman, Monroe, and Martha Uhrick, Nappanee. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Monroe Methodist church by the Rev. Thomas Wyer of Lima, Ohio. Burial in the Ray cemetery. Mrs. Hahn is survived by a nephew, Ivan Roth, route 5, Decatur. Five sisters and three brothers preceded her in death. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the D. O. Mrs. Gephart's entire body was badly burned before the fire was extinguished by her husband. Four young children were left motherless by the tragedy. Mrs. Gephart was engaged in preparing breakfast about 5 o'clock Sunday morning. She had started a fire in the kitchen stove, but it was not burning properly and she took a two gallon can of kerosene and started to pour some of the oil on the fire. The kerosene exploded, hurling the blazing fluid over Mrs. Gephart's dress. HUSBAND EXTINGUISHES BLAZE Mr. Gephart was still in bed, but when he heard the noise of the explosion and his wife's screams, he ran to the kitchen. Mrs. Gephart was entirely enveloped in flames when Mr. Gephart reached the kitchen. He grabbed Mrs. Gephart and laid her on a rug, which he wrapped about her body, extinguishing the flames. Mr. Gephart's right arm was badly burned, also. The house caught fire and considerable damage was done to the interior of the building before the blaze was extinguished by Mr. Gephart and a young man by the name of Wolf, who was at the Gephart home. Removed To Hospital A physician was summoned and Mrs. Gephart's burns were dressed. At 7 o'clock Sunday evening she was removed to the hospital here. Mr. and Mrs. Gephart resided on a farm two miles southwest of Wren, Ohio, on the Indiana side of the Indiana-Ohio line. The farm is owned by Mr. Gephart's father, John Gephart. May Gephart was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Wells. She was born near Pleasant Mills, October 2, 1898. She was married to Joe Gephart June 10, 1916. Five children were born to this union, one son preceding her in death. The surviving children are Albert, Marie, Junior, and Doyl. Other surviving relatives include the mother, Mrs. David Bodle, of Decatur, and two brothers, Ernest Wells, of Marion, and Orval Wells, of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at the home at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and at the United Brethren Church in Wren, Ohio, at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Mr. Sullivan will officiate at the funeral services. Peterson Prominent Decatur Man Dies Tuesday Funeral services will be conducted Friday for Cal Fuller Peterson, 55, prominent Decatur resident, who died at 1:15 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at his home, 603 Penn street. He had been ill of complications for six months and in critical condition for some time. Mr. Peterson had been prominent in Republican party circles his entire adult life. He had served as a Republican precinct committeeman since 1932 and had been a delegate to all Republican state conventions since 1948. He was reelected to both positions in this month's primary election. From 1926 to 1930, he served as chief clerk to Charles Biederwolfe, clerk of the supreme and appellate court of Indiana. Mr. Peterson was elected chairman of the Adams county Republican central committee in 1940, serving in that position until 1944. He was a member of the Masonic Blue lodge in Decatur, and the Scottish Rite and Shrine in Fort Wayne. He was employed as yard conductor by the Pennsylvania railroad in Fort Wayne until his illness. Mr. Peterson was a member of the Church of God. Born in Adams county Dec. 2, 1902, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Peterson and was married to Edna L. Neukom Dec. 19, 1924. Surviving in addition to his wife are his mother, who resides in Decatur; five sons, Cal M. and Charles M. Peterson, both of Fort Wayne, Richard K. Peterson of Monroe, Don R. Peterson of Decatur, and Ralph T. Peterson, at home; seven grandchildren; one brother, Ralph C. Peterson of Goshen, and two sisters, Mrs. Lynn Shirk of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Eugene Melchi of Decatur. One sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Gillig & Doan funeral home and at 2 p.m. at the Church of God, the Rev. Huston Bever, Jr., officiating. After suffering for the past four months from progressive paralysis James Hendricks, Sr., residing in Monroe passed away Sunday morning at 12:10 at his home. Mr. Hendricks first noticed the paralysis 4 months ago and immediately began treating for it bat all efforts were in vain and the illness kept progressing until his death resulted. Mr. Hendricks was one of the oldest pioneers of Monroe township, having moved there with his parents when but a lad of nine years. he was born in Tuscarawas county in Ohio, March 2, 1845, being at the time of his death, 69 years, one month and three days of age. He was united in marriage to Miss Phoebe Manbick and to this union were born six children, one of them having preceded the father and mother in death. The children living are: Mrs. Bertha Lardon of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Ben Smith of near Monroe, Ira of Ashland, Ohio, and Morris and Homer of Hammond. In 1890 Mrs. Hendricks was called in death and in 1892 Mr. Hendricks was again u! nited in marriage to Mrs. Liddy B. Hendricks, who is left to mourn her husband. Mr. Hendricks is also survived by a sister, Mary Jane Ray of this city and a brother, John Hendricks, Sr., of Monroe. One brother William Hendricks has preceded him in death. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church in Monroe, Rev. Jones being the officiating minister. Interment will take place in the Smith Cemetery. She had been in ill health for several years. She was born in Washington township March 11, 1913, a daughter of Frank and Sarah Arnold-Martin and was married to Kermeth Parrish Aug. 11, 1934. She was graduated from the Decatur high school in 1931. Mrs. Parrish was a member of the St. Paul Missionary church and the Washington township Home Economics club. Surviving in addition to her husband are her mother, who resides in Washington township; two daughters, Mrs. John Burkhart of Washington, D. C., and Arlene, at home; one son, Ralph Parrish, also at home; five sisters, Mrs. Forest White of Independence, Mo., Mrs. John V. Walters of near Decatur, Mrs Lyle Franz of near Willshire, Ol, Mrs. Arthur Scheiderer of Woodburn, and Mrs. Elbert Schumm of Rockford, O.; seven brothers, Brice and Harold Martin of near Fort Wayne, Robert Martin of Stroh, Arnold Martin of Berne, and Ralph, Richard and Jay Martin, all of Decatur. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the St. Paul Missionary church, the Rev. Robert Welch officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur cemetery. The body was brought to the Zwick funeral home, where friends may call after 7 o'clock this evening. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. Sunday until time of the services. C. Sheets, 56, of this city, died Saturday evening at 5:30 o'clock at the St. Joseph hospital, in Fort Wayne, after a brief illness. Death was due to double pneumonia, according to the attending physicians. Mr. Sheets became ill last Monday and was taken to the hospital, but double pneumonia set in and death came Saturday evening. Samuel P. Sheets was born in Wren, Ohio, February 25, 1871. He was the son of Nancy and Frederick Sheets. He attended the Wren schools. On December 24, 1893, he was married to Addie McGill. To this union were born eight children, all of who survive. They are Ray, Dwight, Fred, Mrs. Esther McConnell, Harry, Everett, Rex and Dick, all of this city. Mrs. Sheets also survives, as do two brothers, Addison and Otto Sheets, of Wren, Ohio, and two sisters, Mary Jane Gephart and Laura Purk of Wren. Two grandchildren, Carl Sheets and Patsy Anne McConnell, of this city, also survive. Mr. Sheets was united with the United Brethren church when he was ten years of age, and was always a devoted attendant of that church. For the last several years, he has been employed at the Fort Wayne branch of the Indiana Service corporation, where he was working when he became ill last Monday. He was a member of the Decatur lodge of the Loyal Order of Moose, which lodge will have charge of the funeral. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, at the Evangelical church in this city, with the Rev. R. W. Loose and the Rev. Cecil R. Smith in charge. Mr. Stucky was a former top tennis player and won the Frank Dowling cup three years in a row. Born in Berne on September 24, 1909, he was the son of Otto and Cora Sprunger-Stucky, and was married in Berne on July 1, 1933, to Margaret Arnold, who survives. They were married 40 years. Also surviving are two children, John A., of Griffith, Ind.; and Mrs. Peter J. (Onale) Neufeld, of Berne; two sisters, Mrs. Curtis (Evelyn) Bedsworth, of Berne; and Mrs. James (Lillian) Fox, of near Berne; three brothers, Edward Stucky and Merlin D. Stucky, both of Berne, and Rev. Gerald Stucky who resides in South America; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Mennonite Church, Berne, with Rev. He had gone to Fort Wayne a week ago to visit with his son. He died suddenly of a heart attack. Jacob Freeman Uhrich was born in Monroe, November 30, 1851, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Uhrick. He was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Johnson, who preceded in death 17 years ago. He had engaged in farming until recent years. He was a member of the Winchester United Brethren Church. Surviving are the daughter and the son, one brother, Samuel Uhrick, Fort Wayne, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great greatgrandchild. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon t 1 o'clock, standard time, at the James Uhrick residence in Fort Wayne, 1232 West Main street, and at 2 o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Monroe. Burial will be made in the Ray cemetery near Monroe. The body will be removed to the Uhrick home in Fort Wayne this evening from the S. E. Black Funeral Parlors in this city.
