Death was caused by embolism, following an operation. The deceased was well known in this city, having been born and reared here; going to Fort Wayne two years ago to accept a position with the Old Fort Motor company as bookkeeper. She was born in this city on May 20, 1908, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Butler. She was a graduate of the Decatur high school and for a number of years was employed as bookkeeper of two local firms. She was married to Niles "Bud" White, who preceded her in death two years ago. She was a member of the Decatur Zion Reformed church. Surviving besides the parents are two children, Ruth Ann and Billy Bob, and the following half-brothers and sisters: Mrs. H. O. Dibble, Carol, Mich.; Mrs. Cal Myers, Saginaw, Mich.; Mrs. L. A. Pepe, Milwaukee, Wis.; C. A. Anspaugh, of Cleveland; Frank Butler, of this city and a foster-sister, Charlotte, of this city. Funeral services will be held at the home of her parents on Eighth street at 1:30 Monday afternoon and at 2 o'clock at the Zion Reformed church. Burial will be made in the Decatur cemetery. The body will be taken to the home tonight at 6 o'clock from the Black funeral home and may be viewed after 7 o'clock until time of the funeral. F. STALTER TAKEN BY DEATH William Stalter Dies This Morning After Long Illness William F. Stalter, 72, of route one Monroe, former resident of this city, died this morning at 5:20 o'clock of complications, following an illness of one year. Mr. Stalter was born November 30, 1863, in Allen county, Ohio, the son of Noah and Ella Lehman Stalter. He moved to Adams county 66 years ago. He lived in Decatur 19 years and moved to his farm early this spring. He was married to Amanda Drum, of Wells county, January 1, 1886, who survives. Surviving are the following children: Norman S. Stalter, Fort Wayne; Clarence A. of Richmond, Delva A. of Fort Wayne and Allen F. of Dallas, Texas; and the following brothers and sisters: Rebecca Gearheart (sic) of Bluffton; George of Greenville, Ohio; Destiomey (sic) Stalter Wolf, Monroe; Enich (sic) of New Jersey; Doris Stalter Owens, Elkhart. Nine brothers and sisters are deceased. There are eight grandchildren. Mr. Stalter was a retired farmer. He was a member of the United Brethren church of Decatur. Funeral services will be held at the home three miles west of Monroe at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and at 2 o'clock at the Antioch church. The Rev. J. W. Seager of Ohio and the Rev. E. S. Morford of Monroe will officiate at the services. Burial will be made in Antioch church cemetery. The body will be returned from the S. E. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur and its Women's Guild as well as the Indiana State Teachers Association. She attended Ball State Teachers College from 1932-34, studying elementary education, and received her bachelor's degree in 1970 from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne in elementary education and social studies. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ron (Jane) Gerber of Decatur and Mrs. Jerry (Marilou) Hill of St. Clair Shores, Michigan; a son, Kenneth Uhrick of Decatur; a sister Lela Kershner of Decatur; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A son, four sisters and a brother are deceased. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, with burial in Decatur Cemetery. Bohnke, 72, of Decatur, died at 11:54 p.m. Thursday in Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born March 11, 1933, in Adams County, the son of Frank E. and Frances I. Snell Bohnke. On July 15, 1951, he married the former Joan M. VonGunten, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Eric W. Bohnke of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Julie A. Garner and Mrs. Phillip (Holly L.) Degitz, both of Decatur; a brother, Donald D. Bohnke of Fort Wayne; and six grandchildren. Dr. Bohnke retired from Family Dentistry in Decatur in August of 2002. In April of that year he received the Honorary Dentist for 2004 award from the Isaac Knapp Dental Society, and in June of 2004 he received the Honorary Dentist of 2004 award from the Indiana Dental Society. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur, where he was a deacon. He was also a member of Decatur Masonic Lodge No. 571, F&AM, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley, Mispah Shrine, Adams County Shrine Club and Adams County Calliopers, Isaac Knapp Dental Society, Indiana Dental Society and National Dental Society. A memorial service will be held at Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur at 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. The family will receive friends from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday in the fellowship hall of the church. Memorials are to the Zion United Church of Christ or the Shriner's Childrens Hospital. Sapp, 75, 227 S. Fifth St., died at home at 1:50 p.m. Sunday. He had lived in Decatur since 1936. He was born on January 23, 1926 in Mercer County Ohio to Lewis and Orpha F. Miller Sapp and married Beverly J. Hakes on September 30, 1974. He was a custodian for many years for the North Adams Schools before retiring. Mr. Sapp was most popularly known as "The Chief" or as "Chief Harold" because of decades of dressing up in a native American chief's regalia and attending an uncountable number of Bellmont High School sporting events as the official BHS mascot. He attended First Baptist Church in Decatur and was a member of American Legion Post 43 in Decatur. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan after the war. Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl L. Sapp of Decatur; a son, a brother, Edgar L. Sapp of Auburndale, Florida; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A daughter died at birth and a brother and great-grandchild are also deceased. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, with burial in Decatur Cemetery, including military graveside rites by the color guard from American Legion Post 43. He had been a patient at the hospital for one month, and a resident of Decatur Community Care Center for the past year. Mr. Melchi was employed by the Murphy and Lose barber shops, and operated his own shop on West Adams street for 10 years until retiring. He also operated Melchi Photography. Born in Decatur Feb. 24, 1904, he was a son of Sephus and Nettie Ehrsam-Melchi. His father served as Decatur's chief of police for many years. He was married to Margaret Ashbaucher June 2, 1924. His wife preceded him in death May 21, 1969. Mr. Melchi was a member of the First Presbyterian church and Decatur lodge 571, F&AM. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Harry (Judith) Hebble, Jr. of Decatur; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Death of Angola, and Mrs. Hubert (Zelda) Cochran of Decatur; two brothers, Harold Melchi of Pierceton, and Russell Melchi of Decatur; and two granddaughters. He was born in Harrison township April 27, 1890, a son of Dayton and Emma Woods-Krick, and was married in 1920 to Bertha Garwood. Mr. Krick was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church at Wren. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Wiliam Miller of Kendallville; two grandchildren; two brothers, James Krick of Willshire, O., and Floyd Krick of Decatur, and one sister, Mrs. Ray LeBrun of Wren. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Zwick funeral home and at 2 p.m. at the Wren Evangelical United Brethren church, the Rev. Walter Purdy officiating.
