Harman, 56, 704 Elm St., was dead on arrival at 7 a.m. today at the Adams County Memorial Hospital, after suffering a heart attack at his home. Born November 8, 1923 in Root Township, Mr. Harman was the son of Amos L. and Virgie Stetler-Harman. His mother, who make her home with Mr. Harman, survives. Also surviving is the widow, the former Alice Sheets, whom he married on August 18, 1946. Other survivors include two sons, Richard L. Harman of Decatur and Daniel Harman of Fort Wayne; three daughters, Mrs. James (Marilyn) Lee of Decatur, Mrs. Gerald (Carolyn) Stefanek of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Paul Michael (Connie) Meyer of Fort Wayne; one sister, Mrs. Harry (Betty) Mauller of Decatur; 13 grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter. A brother, Robert, and two grandchildren, preceded him in death. Mr. Harman owned and operated Harman's Market for 23 years until its closing in 1970. He became an employee of Prestress Service, Inc. last August, after having worked for several years for Teeple Trucking Co. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church; Adams Post 43 of the American Legion; Decatur Masonic Lodge No. 571, F&AM; Fort Wayne Walley Scottish Rite; Mispah Shrine and the Calliopers; Moose Lodge and the Decatur Elks Lodge. Mr. Harman was a veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theatre. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Zwick Funeral Home, Rev. Albert C. Nunery in charge, and burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 tonight. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Decatur Masonic Lodge 571 F&AM, where he was worshipful master in 1937, Scottish Rite Valley, Fort Wayne, York Rite, Mizpah Temple, and Adams County Shrine Club. A member of a prominent Decatur family, he was born on Feb. 18, 1902, the son of Frank J. and Eva Elzey-Krick, and was married March 31, 1923, to Laura Reusser; she died Sept. 27, 1984. Sheriff and Mrs. Cephus Melchi left today for Leo to attend the funeral of Mr. Melchi's brother, Nathan Melchi, who died Tuesday morning at 5:30 o'clock from apoplexy. He had been subject to severe pains in the head for years but the last fatal attack came upon him Monday evening about four o'clock, coming a a severe pain in the head. The brother, Cephus, of this city, was notified and arrived at his bedside about an hour before he died. The deceased was married and was the father of nine children, eight of whom are living, the youngest being less than a year of age. A son, Manford, it will be remembered, was killed in action in France last May 12. Mr. Melchi operated a threshing outfit and was well known in his community. Surviving brothers and sisters are: Albert and Charles, living at Convoy, Ohio, with their mother; William and John, of Sturgis, Mich.; Jane, in Washington; Sarah, in Hammond; Emma and Alice at Convoy, Ohio, and Mary, at Six Lakes, Mich. She was born in DeKalb county June 3, 1862, the daughter of Harlow and Mary Antrup-Lockwood, and had lived in Adams county for the past 12 years. She was a member of the Pleasant Mills Methodist church. Surviving are six daughters: Mrs. Sovine, with whom she made her home; Mrs. A. E. Gunn of Spencerville, Mrs. Elmer Roop of Auburn, Mrs. John Miller of Battle Creek, Mich., Mrs. Leonard Leroux of Muskegon, Mich., and Mrs. Jesse Haskins of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sons, Alvin Penland of Sand Lake, Mich., and Carl of Iona, Mich.; one step-son, Alpha Penland of Pleasant Lake; 31 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Three sons, three brothers and one sister are deceased. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the home and at 1:30 o'clock at the Methodist church in Pleasant Mills, with the Rev. Seth Painter officiating. Burial will be at Spencerville. Death was due to complications. The deceased was born April 12, 1881, a son of John and Elizabeth Ann Hower Sovine of Kirkland township. His entire life was spent in Adams county and Decatur, where he had been employed at the General Electric for the past sixteen years. He was a member of the United Brethren church and the Red Men's lodge. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Edith Ann Kidwell Sovine, four children: Mrs. A. N. Hilton, Mrs. O. W. Brown, Theodore Hower and Lois Irene; three brothers, Amos, Decatur; David, Pleasant Mills; Joseph, Wells county and one sister, Mrs. Albert Shady of Preble. Two grandchildren also survive. A son and daughter, three sisters and one granddaughter are deceased. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the home and at 2 p.m. at the United Brethren church. Rev. R. E. At an early hour Had Been Ill Long With Tuberculosis of the Skin Sad Case. A sad death was recorded this morning at 6 o'clock, when Joseph, the little six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sovine, well known residents of Thirteenth street, passed into the better world. The little fellow had been ill for some time with tuberculosis of the skin and another skin affection which seemed to baffle the skill of the physicians, and death which came this morning was a welcome relief from his suffering. The heart-broken parents survive. He also leaves two sisters, Esther, aged eight, and Maude, aged two. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Washington church and interment will take place in the Ray Cemetery.
