Mrs. Susie LADD, 95, a former resident of Berne, died at 6 a.m. today at the Decatur Community Care Center. She had been in serious condition for two weeks. She was a member of the Berne Nazarene Church. Born in Adams County on 9 May 1878, she was the daughter of Issac and Kathryn GEHRIG-GRIMM, and was first married to Hosea MARTZ who died on 1 January 1950. She later married Fred LADD and he died in August of 1964. Surviving are one niece, Mrs. Orval ALLSPAW of Berne, and two nephews, William E. STAUFFER of Fort Wayne, and Edward MEYER of TACOMA, Washington, One brother John GRIMM, and six half sisters and one half brother preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Yager Funeral Home, with Rev. Darwin PRESSLER officiating. Burial will be in the M.R.E. Cemetery. Mrs. Dessie HOWARD, 76, of 513 Marshall Street, widow of Chester HOWARD, died at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday in the Van Wert, Ohio County Hospital of injuries received in an accident on 27 April . The mishap occurred in Van Wert County. She was a member of the Women of the Moose. Born in Adams County on 25 January 1897, she was the daughter of Joseph and Desdemona STALTER-WOLFE, and was married on 21 August 1915 to Chester HOWARD. Mr. HOWARD preceded her in death on 2 July 1970. Surviving are two children, Ivan of Decatur, and Mrs. William (Devona) NEEDHAM, Downey, California; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel ANDREWS, Decatur, and Mrs. Bertha SCHMIDT, Hudson, Michigan; three brothers, George WOLFE and William WOLFE, Fort Wayne, and Lloyd WOLFE, Monroe Michigan; two grandsons and one great granddaughter. Three sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Zwick Funeral Home, with Rev. Fuhrman MILLER officiating. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. tonight. Memorial services will be conducted at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Friday by the Women of the Moose. She married Howard Haugk in 1946; he died in 1951. She married Harry F. "Bud" Houk in 1953; he died in 1973. She retired after a 36-year teaching career, the last 24 years in the North Adams Community Schools system. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur. Surviving are one son, Joel D. Houk (and wife Deborah) of Decatur; one daughter, Mrs. Jim (Julia S.) Noblitt of Decatur; one sister, Mrs. John (Alice) Zintsmaster of Scottsdale, Arizona; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson. One brother is deceased, Dr. Jack Bieneke. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, with Pastor Jay Carter officiating. Succumbs today to a long Illness __ Died Early This Morning from Tuberculosis-Many Relatives Here _____ Mrs. Walter Kauffman, was apprized this morning, of the death of her cousin, Mrs. Maude Hendricks Hughson, which occurred at two o'clock this morning at the home of her father, John Hendricks at Portland. Mrs. Hughson had been ill a long time of tuberculosis. She was about thirty-four years old, and was born and reared in Monroe. Later she went with her parents to Portland to live. They spent several of the later years in California, for the benefit of her step-mother, Mrs. John Hendricks's health. Mrs. Hendricks who was also afflicted with tuberculosis, died in California a year or so ago, and the family, including Mrs. Hughson, returned last summer to Portland. Mrs. Hughson's husband Frank Hughson, of Portland , a well known lawyer, died two years ago last January, since which time she has lived with her parents. During Mrs. Hughson's last serious illness, here two children, Ester, aged four, and Mary aged three, were sent in March to Mr. Hughson's parents' home in Wisconsin, where they now are. Besides her children and father, she leaves two step-sisters, Ruby and Gyneth. Miss Ruby is one of the graduates of the Portland High School this year, the commencement being next week. The death of her step-sister will be a sad break in the festivities incidental to the commencement week. The funeral will be held Monday morning at ten o'clock at the home. Cause of death was not given in the wire. The deceased was born in Monroe, a son of Van B. and Adeline Hendricks Simcoke. They later moved to Decatur, where Van B. Simcoke was county clerk. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Laura Pritchett Simcoke, a son Richard of St. Louis and a daughter, Mrs. Paul V. Heineman, also of St. Louis. Three sisters survive, including Mr. Kauffman of this city, Mrs. Henry Fuller of Lima, Ohio and Mrs. Frank Smith of LaGrange. Mr. Simcoke taught commercial classes in the Decatur High School and also at North Ward. He had resided in St. Louis for about 30 years where he was engaged in the insurance business. For the past several winters Mr. and Mrs. Simcoke spent several months in California. Death was due to tuberculosis, which developed as a result of Mr. Okeley being gassed while at the battle front in France. Mr. Okeley enlisted in the army in Ohio. He was a member of Company , 146 machine gun battalion and he took part in several of the major engagements of the war. It was in the battle of Chateau Thierry that Mr. Okeley was gassed. He never fully recovered from the effects of the gas and tuberculosis developed. He went to a government hospital at Dawson Springs, Kentucky, last fall and remained there until about six weeks ago, when the hospital physicians declared his case was incurable. Mr. Okeley was born in Willshire, Ohio, March 19, 1896. He had lived in Decatur since he was about fifteen years old. He was a member of the United Brethren church of this city. On February 24, 1920, he was married to Goldie Burkhead. Surviving are the wife; parents; two brothers, Fred of Fort Wayne, and Herbert, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Smith and Mrs. Florence Rabbitt, both of Decatur, and many other friends and relatives. Funeral services will be held from the United Brethren church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The Rev. B. F. Dotson, pastor of the Unted Brethren church, assisted by Rev. Brown and Rev. Mr. Snyder, a retired coal salesman, was a member of the Methodist church, the Masonic lodge, the Scottish Rite and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Margaret) Duke of Muncie; three grandchildren; three brothers, Ernest Snyder of Antioch, O., and Raymond and Clarence Snyder, both of Decatur, and three sisters, Mrs. Jake (Edith) Foster of Dayton, O., and Mrs. Luther (Indianola) Clase and Mrs. Cletus (Nina) Miller, both of Decatur. A son, Maurice Snyder, who was in the U. S. Air Force, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Hardy & Hardy funeral home in Geneva, with the Rev. He had been ill for the past month with a heart ailment. He was born in Decatur in 1906, a son of Frederick and Melissa Werst, and had resided in Geneva for the past 30 years. Mr. Werst was a member of the volunteer fire department at Geneva. KOHNE DIES SATURDAY AT HOSPITAL Raymond B. Kohne, 71, of 327 Mercer Avenue, well known retired Decatur druggist, and member of a prominent Adams County family, died at 5:50 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's hospital, Fort Wayne. Mr. Kohne had undergone surgery Sept. 8, and his condition had been serious since that time. Mr. Kohne owned and operated the Kohne Drug Store on North Second street here for 40 years prior to his retirement in 1964. He was born in Decatur July 22, 1895, a son of Alphonse and Mary Geels-Kohne, and was a lifelong resident of this community. He attended the local schools and was a graduate of the University of Illinois school of pharmacy. A veteran of WWI, he served as service officer for many years. He was first married to Leona Bosse, who preceded him in death Jan. 13, 1963. He was married April 24, 1964, to Laura Lauby Bosse, who survives. Mr. Kohne was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church, the Holy Name society, Decatur lodge 864, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion Post 43. He served as a member of the Decatur public library board for 26 years before retiring in 1965. Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Dr. Robert Kohne of Lafayette; a stepson, Thomas Bosse of Cleveland, O.; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Katherine) Barbieri of Fort Wayne and Mrs. L. A. (Rosemarie) O'Donnell of Springfield, Va.; one brother, Dr. Gerald J. Kohne of Decatur; fours sisters, Mrs. Irene Cole of Cincinnati, O., Sister M. Francis Claire, C.S.A., of Fon Du Lac, Wis., Mrs. Arthur Lutz of Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. Bertha Ashton of Fort Wayne; and 19 grandchildren. One brother, Rev. Ambrose Kohne, preceded him in death. A solemn requiem high mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic church. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Simson Schmitt will be celebrant of the mass, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Thomas Durkin, Fort Wayne, as deacon, and Rev. Leo Picquet, Lafayette, as sub-deacon. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery. Friends may call at Gillig-Doan & Sefton funeral home after 2:30 p.m. today until time of the services. The rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock this evening. The cause of the young lady's death was leakage of the heart and pulmonary tuberculosis. Although she had been sick for a few months, her condition had not been considered so serious and her death was rather sudden. Mr. Harvey was a very young farmer of the Monroe neighborhood and his death has cast a cloud of gloom over the community. Mr. Harvey was stricken with appendicitis on last Friday, while at his home one mile north of Monroe. He was taken to his father's home on Saturday morning where he underwent an operation for gangreenous appendicitis. His condition was very serious at the time of the operation. Mr. Harvey was married three years ago. Recently he purchased the farm where he lived at the time of his death. He was a member of the Masonic lodge of Decatur. He is survived by his father and mother, and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held from the Methodist church in Monroe at 10 o'clock Friday morning, the Rev.
