Columbus (IN) Daily Herald, October 9, 1897, p. 8. NEARL A YEAR HENCE Trial of Bill Brown, the Murderous Assailant of Conductor Robinson and Brakeman Shipman Postponed The trial of Bill Brown for murderous assault upon Conductor Wilbur Robinson and Brakeman George Shipman continued at Jeffersonville Friday afternoon until the second Tuesday in September, next year. This case recalls to our readers the bloody encounter at Sellersburg last winter when Bill Brown, a drunken tough, blocked the aisle of the car and prevented passengers from getting off at the station. Brakeman Shipman ordered Brown to step aside, when the latter sprang at the brakeman and riddled him with a knife. Conductor Robinson rushed to Shipman's assistance and received several dangerous stabs. The brakeman and conductor were both in a dangerous condition for several weeks and were unable to resume their duty for several months.
