Terre Haute (IN) Daily Gazette, October 4, 1870. New Albany has a population of 15,205. Terre Haute a population of 16,206. New Albany claims to be the largest city in the state except Indianapolis, and the Ledger of that city is mad because the census takers did not count the population of Jeffersonville and Portland and set the result over to the credit of New Albany. To gratify that paper, we suggest that the census be retaken as it is in Evansville. It will give idle Democrats work.
