New Albany (IN) Evening Tribune, August 15, 1911, p. 4. Peter Corrao, the fruit dealer, yesterday afternoon killed a tarantula that gave fight before he dispatched it with a shovel. The huge spider had dropped from a bunch of bananas into the hay in which the bunches had been packed, and Corrao narrowly escaped being bitten by the giant insect. With legs extended, it was nearly as large as one's hand.
