Louisville (KY) Courier-Journal, January 20, 1899, p. 5. THREE DEAD IN A MONTH Strange Fatality Follows the Sheppard Family at Seymour Seymour, Ind., Jan. 19-A strange fatality seems to follow the family of Edward Wesley Sheppard, aged 63 years, who came to this city from New Albany about 18 years ago. A few weeks ago his eldest daughter, despondent through long suffering from cancer, committed suicide. January 7, Mr. Sheppard was attacked with pneumonia and died from the effects one week ago today. Mrs. Sheppard, the wife and mother, was so severely stricken by the tragic death of her daughter and overcome with grief over the unexpected loss of her husband, that nervous prostration, aggravated by influenza, caused her death at an early hour this morning.
