Louisville (KY) Courier-Journal, March 10, 1886, p. 8. A SALOON ROW Monday evening Tom Nye, a saloon keeper at Scottsburg, Ind., fired three times at Elmer Smith who had entered the former's saloon to get a drink. One of the bullets took effect in Smith's back inflicting a severe wound. It appears that the parties had had a quarrel a short time before and that Smith had knocked Nye down. When Smith entered the saloon, Nye ordered him out, at the same time drawing a pistol and commencing to shoot. Both are well-known characters and have figured in similar disturbances.
