Louisville (KY) Courier-Journal, January 20, 1899, p. 5. WERE NOT DISCOURAGED Couple from Seymour Married in Jeffersonville after Failing in New Albany Meedia T. Ruddick and Bertha A. White, who eloped from Seymour, Ind., to New Albany where Clerk Scott refused to issue a license on account of the youth of the pair, were married late Wednesday night in Jeffersonville. A colored man made an affidavit that the couple was old enough to marry. There was no objection to the wedding on the part of the parents, and it was unnecessary for the lovers to have left home.
